Default "Teach Me the Basics?" (Repost of the lost thread)

I tried to respond to my last thread about this, but it was closed, so I am just posting this here.
Note : None of the content after this was written by me, it is a repost of a thread that has been lost for some reason or another. I did not write this, and do not take any credit for all of the work put into creating it.

Threadstart:

OK, for all the new guys coming in "looking for the basics", no more posting garbage topics about it. This is gonna be it. First off, we have countless topics on moves, so look around and see which ones work for you. Don't be lazy, cuz if you are, you shouldn't be playing basketball at all For some basic moves, this is how its gonna work. I'm gonna post some. If you have a move you want to be on here, PM it to me, and I'll prolly stick it on. You can actually PM me any move you want, and we'll see about putting it up here. Above the move there will be a "Submitted By", "Difficulty Rating" , "Effectiveness" , and "Flash". It's on a scale of 5, 1 being the lowest, 5 being the highest. Here we go.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shamgod
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 2
Effectiveness: 4 1/2
Flash: 2-4 (depending on variations)

The Shamgod is a basic move for getting an open shot, or getting rid of the D to get an open lane to drive. The basic form of this is ridiculously easy, and it works. There are a huge amount of variations, but this is the basic. First, take the ball in your left hand, so your plam faces forward, but your elbow is facing back (so your arm is hanging down at your side.) Push-dribble the ball forward and left of your D, and as you do that, step out with your left foot. Almost as soon as you put your left foot down, pull back the ball with your right hand. This works cuz as you push out the ball, the D will start to go that way, and may even reach for the ball. Ankles have been broken from this move.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Flick
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 3
Effectiveness: 4
Flash: 3 1/2

The Flick is basically a fake throw of the ball. Cock the ball back like your about to throw it (elbow is facing the D, ball is near your head). As you straighten your arm like your throwing it forward, let your fingers slide up on the ball. Right as your arm is completely straight, flick your wrist/fingers back towards you, so that the ball comes back to you, or goes straight down. Do help with this, you can start out by cupping the ball with your hand/wrist at the beginning, then doing the same thing. This can be used as a fake pass, a fake throw at the D, or if you are really good, even a fake shot.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Boomerang
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 3 (if you have The Flick down)
Effectiveness: 3 1/2-4
Flash: 3-4

The Boomerang is a move created by Hot Sauce. It works better on a shorter person or your same height, or even a little bit taller than you, but if they are much taller than you, stay away from this move. What you do is jump up with two feet, and as your in the air, make the motion of throwing the ball of the D's head. All your going to do is do the flick, but slightly different. When your "throwing" the ball, make it a right to left throw (if the ball is in your right hand). When your in the air and your arm is above the D's head, turn your arm fast and tight so your palm and elbow face the right, maybe a little up even. Do the flick so the ball goes up/right. Look towards the left like you just threw it that way. The D should look over there, and look stupid.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fake Behind the Back Pass
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 3 1/2
Effectiveness: 3 1/2
Flash: 3 1/2

This is actually a pretty easy move once you get it, but till then, it takes some practice if you're a beginner. Dribble the ball with your right hand. Turn your body to your right. As you do that, with the ball in your right hand, kind of cup the ball and bring it up and towards the D hard and fast. As it goes forwards, move your hand up on top of the ball, and if you can, put your hand even farther over on the side of the ball near the D. Then just kind of drop it and keep dribbling. When you are doing the actual fake, your can turn your body pretty much as much as you need to to stop the ball from flying out of your hands. Sorry, this is hard to explain in words.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spinmaster
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 3 1/2
Effectiveness: 3
Flash: 4-4 1/2

I named this move myself. Such flash if done right, and it even works on the D sometimes too! Take the ball in your right hand. Do a right spin, but jump really low to the ground off 2 feet, and as you land (facing forwards again) dribble straight front to back under your right leg, catching the ball again with your right. Right as you land/catch the ball, do another right spin. As you come around, you should be ahead of the D so they will be running to catch up to you. As you come around, plant your left leg, and finish with Hot Sauce's Hurricane (wrap the ball to your left with your right hand, and dribble back to front thru your legs.) Now you stopped, but the D just kept going.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hypnotizer
Submitted By: Benjaminlibl
Difficulty Rating:3
Effectiveness:3 1/2
Flash: 4 1/2

Get close to the D, dribble the ball behind your back reall y low so he gets close and throw it behind your back to in front of the D. Keep pretending to dribble, and when the D starts to straighten up, run to get the ball.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Slip and Slide
Submitted By: Benjaminlibl
Difficulty Rating: 3-4
Effectiveness: 2-4 if you get it done right,
Flash: 4

Dribble the ball from your left leg to your right hand, and spin while bringing your left knee to the ground, sort of roll on the ground while dribbling the ball when on the floor, if you set this up with a couple of crossovers, it could work pretty well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hurricane
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 2 1/2
Effectiveness: 2 1/2
Flash: 3 - 3 1/2

The Hurricane is one of Hot Sauce's moves. The basic hurricane doesn't work so much as a "move", but of a freestyle. Dribble thru your left leg, then your right. Catch the ball in your right hand, and step back with your right foot. Take your right hand (with the ball), reach across your body so the ball is behind your left leg, and dribble back to front thru your legs. Catch the ball again with your right hand. Thats basic. You can add a lot of style to even the basic form of this move, so just play around with it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hurricane Variation
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 3 1/2
Effectiveness: 3 1/2
Flash: 4 1/2

HUGE FLASH!!! say it again. HUGE FLASH!! Ya, this move gets the crowd going. Rock your D with this, and ppl will rush the courts. Take the ball in your left hand. Put it to your left, throw it up very low in the air going out to the left. The D should start to go out that way a little bit, so step your left foot out and catch the ball with your right hand across your body. Now bring the ball to your right, so the D looks that way and sometimes even goes that way. Now, since the ball is in your right hand, and your left foot is forward, do the Hurricane. When you put the ball around your left leg, put it to your left really fast, so it looks like a fake going that way. The D gets confused from this all the time. I know it doesn't sound like much, but just try it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reverse Shamgod
Submitted By: Lews Street 101 (http://www.freewebs.com/lews_street_101/moves.htm)
Difficulty Rating: 3
Effectiveness: 3 1/2 - 4
Flash: 3 - 3 1/2

Here's a variation of the shamgod. Start with your right leg in front, but face it on a diagonal so the D is kind of in front of you, but more to the side. Dribble back and forth thru your right leg. Dribble out to your right hand (whcih should be in back) but dont catch it just yet. Let it bounce once out first. Then pull it back with your right thru your right leg and that should work like a shamgod. if not, you can make it in to a cross.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacked Up
Submitted By: Youngtricker
Difficulty Rating: 3
Effectiveness: 4
Flash: 4

Pretty easy move that if you get down, works all the time. Take the ball and get the D just standing there. You dont want him too alert. Take the ball with your right hand, and wrap the ball around his head. Start to move a little to the left, and as you circle the ball around his head and take it with your left hand, transfer it to your right hand just real quick and bounce it between the D's legs. Run around, get the ball, and your wide open with a confused D behind you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ping Pong
Submitted By: Benjaminlibl
Difficulty Rating: 3 1/2
Effectiveness: 3 1/2
Flash: 3 1/2 - 4

With your right hand put the ball on your right leg, bring your leg up to scare the D, when you bring the ball down without bouncing immediately dribble it front to back to your left leg, the ball should be at your back, then use your right leg to kick it up. Kick it not too hard and catch it with your left hand. It is a little complicated.

The Back Ache

While bouncing the ball in your right hand bring it behind you but from your left to your right (so ur arm goes across your stomach to bounce the ball behind you
then bring your right arm back around and catch it
as you catch it, bounce it behind you to your left hand
your opponent will now be on your left side leaning way out giving you a chance to pull off any otha move you want on him that you can do with your left
(its good to do alot of leaning while doing this move and the faster you do it, the more effective it worx and the more confused ur opponent gets)

i had 2 post this somehwere and this thread hasnt been added 2 in while

I got this one from the google cache.. but I checked google, msn, yahoo, altavista, and the wayback machine to find which had cached the page most recently. It is a great thread and has been quite a bit of help.. thanks for taking the time to write it in the first place.
