it helps a lil, but not much. the best way is to do drills, or repeat a move over and over again, because repetition is the key. its just how the brain works: same thing as shooting from the same spot to "memorize" your shot. if u spent 10 minutes practicing ur crossover, u would improve much more than if u spent that 10 minutes freestyling.

that said, theres nothing wrong with improvising a little. if ur practicing on a court, u can practice driving out/pulling up of moves such as triple threat jab moves, quick crossovers, in and outs, etc. this will help ur ability to dribble on instinct.

the only reason freestyling helps ur handles is cuz u dont have to worry about making the basket after u pull off a trick

i normally just take my ball wherever i go shopping,babysitting kepping that ball around little kids is hard then swerving around pple on fordham...GOOD PRACTICE

Gonna start on that post a little...

Freestyling helps when you're streetballing and pulling all those tricks out.

It does not help when you're playing a fundamental game.

If you've watched a Pepper or Disaster video, you would know what I'm saying.
