ben, the underground scene is alive and buzzing, it always has been, the fact is that most people are not introduced to it; they know nothing about it.

The public is exposed to this mainstream commercializd rap because its a business and its this business part of it that allows it to become recognized, as they have the resources to make a 'star' out of their product.

Labels are looking for something they can sell

right now what the majority of the people want to hear is shouting over big beats-as long as it sounds good thats all they care about

its the club shit they want

btw jimbo 2pac graduated form a private school and was an A-grade student in poetry

i thought he mastered in drama as well..?anyways i thnk lotsa people misunderstand commercial hip hop. Commercial hip hop just means that your exposed and everyone knows you, like your on mtv and all that shit. but being commercial doesnt mean you suck. like common is mainstream is he has insane lyrics and flow. Kanye's stuff is pretty nice too. Lupe Fiasco, KRS- One, Mos Def, Talib Kweli.. thers still many commercial rappers keeping it real. Its just when the money gets to them is when it becomes boring. And for 50 cent, or any other "commercial" rapper out ther, i dont like ther music but in the end,its ther job, so they wanna make as much money as they can.

agreed.

though one thing that i dont dig is when rappers go big and they forget about their roots; the fame and fortune takes over and they loose the talent that got them their in the first place.

Take a look at black thought from the roots, firstly check out his freestyle with questlove which was before he went big, and then watch his new freestyle at rap city.
he still has the same skills, and nothings changed besides the cloths he is wearing. i believe staying true to yourself is important, it is thier duty to provide that through their music.

Unhappy Re: What Does

Rap is losing it's original flow I mean now you listen to every song and everybody has the same style same voice instead of rapping about getting through life they write about getting with woman and partying not saying nothing is wrong with that but I believe that they need to bring it back to the way it originally was

thats for real man. ther are so many examples of cases like that in hip hop today. One hardcore example is bone thugz and harmony. They practically sold out every aspect of ther career for money. black thought is actually one of the truest emcees ive heard.

For me, i dont really mind gangsta rap, i mean i love N.W.A. and all of them cats, heck i even liked 50 with his power of a dollar cd, and seriously Hate it Or love It was actually a nice track. In fact i know a lot of posers that say 50 Cent sucks blah blah blah, but in the end they still bump In Da Club and P.I.M.P. on their ipods. But in the end, I'd rather listen to Rakim and Eric B., Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Tech., and all those other cats.

And i got a question, how come 50 has become kind of a scapegoat for ruining rap? Thers so many other worse rappers out ther.. and he seems to get all the blame

true, though i think in 50's case, all the publicity he gets and the hype around him makes people believe he doesnt desereve to be where he is, and that he doesnt really have talent

and after all the beefing with the game and blackwallstreet (i think we all remember that saga) it just made him look straight up wack. He practically got owned by the game, they way chuck shuts him down on them mixtapes is killer; the whole incident sort of exposed 50 as like a fake gangster.

But we must keep in mind though, that music in the end is just a form of entertainment just like movies and sports and so on; we shouldnt take it too seriously, its made for our pleasure and enjoyment.
We just want to listen to it in the end, and it should sound good.

Listen to the song stimulate by eminem, and sing for the moment and pay close attention to the lyrics and what he is sayin.

Iunno if hip-hop is dead or not but I want to see more rappers / emcees that rap about what they live and don't talk about pussy or money in every other verse..so pretty much REALER people that talk about REAL things that happened to them before.
