Default For those of you who have asked me about Creatine

Here is a very good supplement. It is Gaspari Nutrition's SizeOn. It is a Creatine Gluconate (creatine with a glucose carrier), as well as Disodium ATP. It comes in tablets and powdered drink form. Creatine and an energy source.

Amino acids are the basic structural building units of proteins. They form short polymer chains called peptides or longer chains called either polypeptides or proteins.

In humans, non-protein amino acids also have important roles. Many amino acids are used to synthesize other molecules, for example:

Tryptophan is a precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin.
Glycine is a precursor of porphyrins such as heme.
Arginine is a precursor of nitric oxide.
Carnitine is used in lipid transport within the cell.
Ornithine and S-adenosylmethionine are precursors of polyamines.
Homocysteine is an intermediate in S-adenosylmethionine recycling.

If you're taking a protein supplement, the extra aminos can aid in protein assimilation. That being said, most protein supplements contain the necessary aminos.

This is a pretty good article that is easy to read and informative:

Creatine monohydrate is a rather "old" form, basically the original, phosphagen. It will still work, but it can trap water between the muscle and the fat under the skin. This can make your muscle look "puffy". It is also more difficult for your body to absorb. You should drink cranberry, pomegranate or orange juice with it. The one thing I would say about creatine is, do not become a cronic user. Cycle on then off of it. I take it maybe 3-4 cycles per year, for 6-8 weeks. There are some better forms of creatine, but monohydrate is better than nothing! Creatine will add strength, help with recovery, and add some bulk.

Well, with monohydrate you do need to load it for 2 weeks. Then you need at least 10 g per day. The way it works, you have to have it in your system for your body to use it in the next workout. So, it doesn't work right away. Every organ in your body uses creatine, so it takes about 2 weeks for your muscles to use it.

well im going to start phase 4 of vjb bodyweight and beginners plyos next week. so i only have 1 phase. i can now just touch the ring, so my next goal is to grab it. using creatine for 1 phase of 3 weeks wouldnt really help me gain extra inches would it? coz u said it only starts working after like 2 weeks or something?

I'm sure it would help to some degree. You just won't see marked results for about 2 weeks. What type were you considering? Not all are equal. Basically my rule of thumb is to take it for 6-8 weeks approximately. You may want to try L-Arginine alpha ketoglutarate. I'll start a new thread about it.

Hey john, this is an area I know little about. I bought some basic creatine monohydrate (REFLEX) that I intend to use when I start lifting heavy again. This will the first time I use the product. Say I cycle it for 6-8 weeks at a time with say 4 weeks non-use in between. That may mean it will last me say during a strength training block in my training, but when I come to doing RFD/plyometric training I will be off the creatine. What do you think? Ideally if I'm training RFD I want the benefits of creatine. Anyway, people seem to be having good results with this supplement so am quite excited to be using it (hopefully quite soon).
