The best thing you can do besides playing well and making a name for yourself is to send game tapes to college coaches before your senior year in high school. These tapes should be complete games, not just highlight films. Coaches basically want to get a feel for how you play over the course of game, not just your best highlights, which only show strengths and none of your weaknesses.

To be honest, my vert is not near what it used to be, because I haven't been playing or triaining much over the past couple of years. However, I can still throw down some nice stuff occasionally when I play pick-up. I was a combo guard when I played and probably had around a 34-35 inch vert at its best. As a 6'5" guy with long arms, a 34-35 inch vertical translated into some good dunks. My goal over the next few months, because I don't start med school classes again until Jan 22nd, is to play a lot of ball and get my jumping back to what it was or even higher. I never really followed any specific jump training when I was playing competitively, but I did lift and play all the time. Right now, I'm considering purchasing a vertical jump program, but I'll have to do some research on what's best for me. My area of study in college was Exercise Science/Kinesiology and Biology; and now I currently am a medical student, so my science knowledge will help me to see what programs are legit, and what programs are a rip-off.

This is true. It is the absolute elite that end up playing in the NBA, and you would be amazed at the number of guys who can flat out ball, but never get a sniff by the NBA. My agent tried to get me invited to the Portland Trailblazers training camp as a free agent after my senior year in college, but they basically told him that I had too many injuries throughout college (1 knee surgery and 2 ankle surgeries; guess that is why am now going into Orthopedic Surgery )to even be invited to training camp.
