Default BabyBoy's VJB Journey

Hi, I started VJB today and boy was I was exhausted. It's way harder than JS...

I did Beginner Plyos today and I plan to do Bodyweight later on in the afternoon, if I still have enough energy.

Name : BabyBoyBalla
Age : 14
Height : 5'8
Standing Vertical Leap : 19 inches
Running Vertical Leap : 19 inches

Current Program : Beginner Plyometrics + Bodyweight Training

Goal : Dunk consistently. I'd say about at least 40 inches.

Please let this be a consistent journal.

Good luck and lets see the gains.

Phase 1 - Week 1 - Day 1 Complete

Today, I had to drop my Bodyweight Squats to 2x50 instead of the 2x100. It was too much for me

That's fine. Your short term goal is to add reps. Pick a number eg 5 and make sure you achieve that.

So it's okay if I drop all my rep numbers?

The common rep numbers I have are 2x20... and there are like 6 sets per program, so it really burns me out.

I'll make it easy for you. Drop the volume according to your current level by all means. But prolong your program's initial phase as you get up to speed to doing all the reps. CONSISTENCY and PROGRESSION are two very important things to aim for. So, maybe if you drop to 2x15 and exercise 3 times a week, add a rep to each set per workout to get to 2x20 by the end of week 2, then repeat week 1 all reps for another week. This is one thing you can try for. There are instances when this doesn't work and where it makes an intense training block too long (where there is say planned overreaching), but I think this does not apply to you.

I plan on doing 2 times a week since I'm doing 2 programs. So my first two weeks will be like this? :

Wk 1 Day 2 - 2x15
Wk 2 Day 1 - 2x17
Wk 2 Day 2 - 2x19

Wk3 - Repeat Week 1 with full reps now

Phase 1
  1. Week 1COMPLETE
  2. Week 2
  3. Week 3

Day 2 was completed today. I had to lower my reps for the last few Bodyweight exercises as I was getting exhausted very quickly. I plan to repeat Week 1 of Bodyweight next week whilst moving to Week 2 of Beginner Plyometrics.

Bluegreyhound's advice really came through for me... I felt more refreshed after the workouts today than Day 1.

I always find it helpful to drink milk immediately after working out. Get some nutrients into the system asap. Helps with recovery.

Okay, I'll try doing that...

But I wanted to ask you something again, sorry for the trouble.

After my Beginner Plyometrics workout, I felt more refreshed than last time... I probably could do one or two more sets of an exercise.

Then I rested for 5+ hours and did my Bodyweight workout. It took a lot of effort for me to finish that workout and I presume I used my 100% effort for that one. Do you think I should drop my repetitions again or take in the pain?

I hope to develop my vertical and not my endurance that's why I'm trying to be as cautious as possible.

EXTRA NOTE : The day after this workout, my calves were sore.
