Default TJones06's VJB intermediate strength focus journal

I'm 19, 6'2'' 170 pounds, with a standing vertical of 24'' and a running 1 foot of around 31''. I can dunk 1 hand easily and 2 hand is about 1 out of 20. I did 5 weeks worth of VJB last april, so I'm pretty much a fresh start. By the end of the fourth week, I would like to get the 2 hand dunk to about 80%.
Current stats:
Standing vert: 24 inches
Running off 1 foot: 31 inches
Max squat: ~225
Current squat rep weight: 170
Current highest touch: 10'9''

Obviously I'm really week, about as thin as a rail, would love to get my max squat to 270 around where it's suppose to be for my bodyweight to get 1.5x bodyweight.

Workout #1 today, felt pretty good. Did everything I was suppose to, didn't butcher anything too bad. Did 1 foot squats, had to hold on to something at the 6th of 8 reps with my left foot, could barely do any with my right foot....

Anyway, more updates with more workout based information coming on Tuesday. Tuesday will be an all plyo today, today was 2 plyos and 4 weight exercises.

hopefully someone is interested.... I'll probably put up some dunk videos once I can get oops and 2 handers down... which is probably around when I can touch 11' so 3 inches to go.

Hey, good luck with the 270 squat and touching 11". Lookin forward to seein some Dunk videos ... 3 inchs .. you cando it man !

i did random workouts for the last like 8 months here and there and my vertical declined if anything so honestly i'm not too confident

are you still doing the random excersizes? you should take a week or two off and see if you notice any gains after resting. if not then just stick to VJb following a program is better then just doing random exercises. Stay confident the gains will come it just takes hard work.

I meant I would just go to the gym and do some squats and a few other weight things maybe twice a month. During this time my strength went down, so obviously I was barely going. I was well rested today when I started so I should be good to go.

Workout #2 Tuesday February 12
Went to the rec, did about 4 easy plyo exercises. The second workout of the weak is really a joke. One of the exercises is 4 sets of ONE broad jump... I dont know why Kelly B would even make me do this but I went anyway because he's the man and I'm not. Went up for a few dunks, 1 handed felt as good as ever, 2 handed was horrible as usual. Tried 1 oop, barely got off the ground. Tried to touch as high as I can and I think I got an inch higher than ever before... but that's probably just due to luck or bad measuring, not because of the 1 workout...

Looks like I got a long way to go.

Next update coming Thursday, some deadlifts, other weights, couple of plyos

3rd workout, did some deadlifts, some barbell lunges, other weights, only 1 plyo exercise. felt fine when i got the gym, felt pretty good when I left. didn't really try to jump around too much so there isn't much I can say at the moment. If I'm not sore tomorrow I'll probably go dunk a few tomorrow. who knows

Workout # 4 today. Went very well. Before today, the most I had squated for reps was 175x8 and today I did 200x6. I feel like at the end of this I'm going to be exactly where I want, or at least close. Other than that I did some leg curls, split squats, calf raises and a couple plyos. The only thing that didn't go very well was 1 foot squats, kind of hurt one of my knees and I only did like a set and a half instead of 3 but I feel fine now so it's not a big deal. Tuesday got a light plyo day, I'll probably throw a few down then unless I'm sore. For some reason I haven't been sore at all yet but I'm sure today I'll be dyin.
