Exclamation Deadlift or Squat??

My friend just got Go Basketball Pro and in one of the bonus sections this "expert" explains how the deadlift contributes way more than the squat to ur vertical leap saying the squat is not king etc..

Can anyone make sense, and tell me how many sets-reps to do on deadlift my max is 225

well the squat and the deadlift are both very important parts of a vertical jump program because they are both compound exercises. The deadlift is a little better then the squat as there is more involvement of the posterior chain and it works more overall muscle groups. But the use of ass to ground squats should take care of the problem. They should both be added to a program if possible as the squat is more anterior chain emphasis and the deadlift is more posterior chain emphasis but both increase all the major lowerbody muscle groups.

For sets-rep scheme keep the reps less like 6 and under and more sets. In sport training you want to work the fast twitch muscle fibers which requires you to lift as much weight as possible as fast as possible and with good form.

there are many programs you can do just create your own program

Do both. IMO neither is better than the other, and any good jump program will have you doing both. They both work basically the entire leg, but the squats put more emphasis on the lower body anterior chain ( quads, abs), and deadlifts put more emphasis on the lower body posterior chain (hams, glutes, lower back). Some say deadlifts ( specifically stiff-legged) are better because the starting position is more similar to a standing jump position, but I really don't think that means much.

Just my thoughts on this..
You should do both exercises. One thing to bear in mind is that different people may find one exercise to be much easier than the other. Imo, this is not necessarily wholly due to a posterior or anterior chain strength bias. Leverages play a big part. For example, relatively long limbed individuals may find the deadlift to be easier than the squat; that may be because they only need to pull the weight through a shorter distance/range of motion to get to lock-out. The same individuals may find that they need to move the bar through a greater ROM to hit the parallel point in the squat.

The main thing to keep in mind is that with these compound lifts you are primarily training for general albeit functional strength levels. You are not really looking for replication of the vertical jump or any real-life athletic movement. In other words, you're getting in shape so that you can benefit the most from specific training exercises later on.

Question Re: Deadlift or Squat??

Do these strength training make us short (height) as we have to lift bars/weight?

No, why would it?
That weight lifting stunts your growth myth is so dumb. To anyone who thinks that it does stunt your growth, explain to me why? How does lifting something with your muscles affect your bones?
