Reactive Strength
Hey does anybody know exactly what is and how to train for reactive strength?? My trainer says this would increase my 1 legged takeoff since I'm a natural fast two legged jumper and thoughts will be appreciated

Re: Reactive Strength
Reactive strength is how much power/strength you can display in a minimal amount of time usualy causing the athlete to be static spring efficient athlete (eceptional athlete) if they can in fact display a good reading in terms of reactive strength. Reactive strength can be devloped through an variety of plyometric excercises, speed lifts such as speed squats/wave squats/explosive squats, jump squats, speed deadlifts, olympic lifts etc,
I am currently doing a 16 week reactive program which involves alot of sprints, plyometric, reactive based excercises.
reactive strength can also be reffered to as plyometric strength, explosive strength, elastic strength etc.
Hope you found that helpful.

yeah mostly plyos. can u answer one last ? i heard on some site can't remember that its not how high u jump but how fast u jump when training. if this is true i should spend as little time as possible on the ground and less time in the air like up and down as fast as possible to build up my elastic/reactive strength??

Re: Reactive Strength
soso, they key is minimal ground contact time. You want to be expressing as much of your maximal strength as you can relative to your bodyweight when doing the excercises.
Whenever i do this sort of stuff its good to visualize yourself being the fastest you can possible be with excellent balance and coordination, tell yourself your gonna use all your effort.
For plyometrics such as 4 star drills/ankle bounces/lunge jumps i just try to spring of the ground while being coordinated and performing the excercises properly.
1 more thing, plyometrics are used to get the body to adapt to jumping higher. This is why you want to give it your all everytime you do them.

Re: Reactive Strength
thanks for answering him i was too busy fixing the other forum.
also yes it depend on what you want
would you rather jump 40 inches slow or 35 inches really fast.
people that are 2 legged jumpers are usually slower jumpers than single leg jumpers because they usually lack reactive strength and have too much limit strength.
