Default Aeon's Journey to the Rim- VJB Journal

Wats up guys. It's Aeon here. I'm going to start VJB Novice Plyos and Bodyweight Strength Training this Monday. I have done some plyos in the past and I'm pretty desperate for the dunk . So I'm going to start with Novice Plyos. I guess I'll face difficulties with the Bodyweight Training since I rarely do weights with my legs or related exercises. Hopefully I can DUNK before I enter the army next year April. By the way I'm 18.

Height: 1.72m (~5'8)
Mass: 60kg, fluctuating within 2 kg (~132lbs)

Standing vert: 25 inches
Running vert: 1 to 2 inches plus minus 25 inches, inconsistent (perhaps due to poor technique & lack of practice)

Schedule: Train on Mon and Thur. Plyo in the morning, Bodyweight in the afternoon

Goal: 12 inches by 12 weeks
Though we usually fall short of our goals, we must believe we can do it!!

I'm still not familiar with many exercises in VJB so I hope you all can help me with it. I will update you every week. Hope I really gain some inches in this 12 weeks. Please feel free to leave your comments.

Wish me luck

Well I'm going to be the optimist. If at the end of this I don't gain 12 inches, move on to another more difficult training till I get 12 inches. Haha I haven't even started yet

1 inch every week is realistic. One week your vertical may go down and you might say you have lost an inch, but at the end of 12 weeks if you rest one more week then when you look back you should have 12 inches avg if you're dedicated.

Killingangel's right. Plus, being optimistic and believing you can do it will make it a lot easier to actually do it.

Hey guys thanks for your support. I will really need motivation and encouragement throughout these 12 weeks Seejay, I'm just being optimistic. Often, you'll do much better with the right attitude. Don't inhibit or limit yourself by believing that you can only gain like 5 or 6 inches the most. Even if I don't reach my goal, I know I've done my best.

Anyway, latest update: Though I haven't been active in basketball these 2 years, my vertical didn't decrease. In fact it felt easier to jump now. This morning I balled a while and it felt great. Of course, I took the opportunity to see where I stand now. I actually used a ruler and measured when I hung on the side metal support of the rim.

To touch the rim: 4.5 more inches or less
To hang on the rim: ~6 inches
To DUNK: ~15 inches??? I don't know

Also, when I ran and jump with one leg, like a lay-up,(is that considered running vert?), my vertical is about the same as my standing vert. Why is this so? I thought running vert is supposed to be a few inches higher?

Can't wait for next Monday to start training
