Default TheGoatDoubleDunk's VJB Journal

Ok, so because i haven't had any previous jump training etc. I just decided to go with the Beginners Plyos + Bodyweight from the Vertical Jump Bible.

My days that I'm doing them is:
Sunday: Bodyweight then Plyos
Wednesday: Bodyweight then Plyos

I did the plyos first today and i worked a pretty heavy sweat, the plyos were quite demanding on my legs and I could feel the effects after I'd finished.

Next I did the bodyweight which took more than an hour, some of the exercises were hard to get the drift of but I eventually figured them out. The exercises were very good and my legs were really sore after I'd done the 200 squats and the other exercises. The Peterson Step-Up's I found really demanding.

My standing vertical at the moment is 25 Inches and once I've completed the 12 weeks I'm hoping to gain about 12 inches from doing the exercises as best I can and not taking short-cuts.

Once I complete the Beginner's I'll move on to the Novice and once I've finished that I'll move on to the Intermediate one. I think I'm going to remain motivated because of the gains I'm hoping to acheive.

Ok, so I just finished my 2nd Workout. The 2nd workout this time was easier than the last time. I'm finding the plyometrics probably feeling more beneficial than the bodyweight at this point. The plyometrics I can tell will help me gain a lot of inches onto my vertical and will make my legs a lot more springy. I need to remain motivated for the bodyweight because most of the exercises are fairly demanding and slow.

Ok so I had the Rep Trials las night and when I was just warming up and I went up for a dunk on a proper 10 foot hoop which I usually could get up to but usually miss the dunk and to my amazement I dunked it cleanly 3 times in a row so after doing just one week of beginners plyos and bodyweight i must of gained an inch in vertical. My performance during this rep trial was pretty average, my shot was off and i did not really have the hang time on my j that i usually have, so it's probly the vjb that has tired my legs out.

What exactly is rep trials? Is there where you try out out your state team?

Rep trials is basically representative trials. Where you represent your area in Basketball. Then there is a tournament that runs around 10 weeks then theres finals etc etc.

By the way I played in the State Odd Age Tournament, and the Rep team I am in went through undefeated. My best perfomance was against Manly (A Sydney team) in which I scored 25 points and got 15 rebounds. We were down 79-76 with 3 seconds to go and my mate who is one of the best basketballer's in Australia hit a game tying shot on the buzzer from half way with two defenders trying to double team him. It went into overtime and we ended up winning 92-85.

Journal Update: I decided to shift my workout to Monday instead of Sunday due to fatigue from the tournament. It was fairly hard the workout and was a bit more demanding than the first week. But I'm handling it more and I am able to sustain the workouts better than the first week.
