To my dismay, both my running and standing vertical seems to remain the same. There's a rim which is about 9'6" near my house. All along since last year, I could touch it with my first finger joint. Today, it remains the same. Most of my tries I only managed to touch the rim with my first joint. There were a few tries where I touched the rim with my second joint. But those were the minority and in the past, sometimes I could do that too...
This means......NO IMPROVEMENT! Damn. I don't get it. I feel stronger, that's why I went down to test my vertical, thinking I can grab the 9'6" rim. But, everything's the same... Perhaps it's due to my muscles which are not fully recovered. But I really hope to grab this rim ASAP first before moving on to the 10 feet one!

Re: Aeon's Journey to the Rim- VJB Journal
Week 2 Day 1
Alright it's one day after I finished the third workout. Surprisingly the Plyos workout somehow turned much easier to do and I didn't have any soreness due to it. I followed your advices to use as much energy as possible for every rep but it was still easy, despite the increase in sets too.
The Bodyweight training increased by half-fold and killed me again! Damn. My workout was constantly filled with OOOOOs and AHHHHHHHs... I wonder when this Bodyweight will become as easy as Plyos.
Man I really hope my efforts will pay off. At least let me gain 2 to 3 inches by Phase 1

Hmmm... I think around 2 years ago, I tried the 9-week jump program (plyos) in hoopsvibe.com but stopped at the 3rd week. Other than that, I never trained. Also, I rarely used weights to train my legs. But, I cycle to school every now and then for like 10 minutes.
I just jump around as per normal when playing basketball. So I'd say that I didn't really have much training prior to VJB

Re: Aeon's Journey to the Rim- VJB Journal
Week 2 Day 2
Alright, I just finished my Plyos. Somehow my mental strength got pretty low today. I won't say my motivation got low because according to sports psychology, motivation is the direction and intensity of your effort. I woke up and just didn't feel like training though I've recovered. Then throughout the workout I still felt quite low.
But I still did it anyway. Plyos is really getting easier even though I do my best for every rep, especially the side-to-side box jump and the 1-leg step-up jump. I can't feel my muscles aching after doing Plyos. Guess it's losing its effect.
I feel more fresh after doing the Plyos, in the sense, more awake. OK I'm gonna do Bodyweight later. It's the one which never fails to kill me. Can't wait to finish Phase 1 and test my gains!

don't worry about it. It happens to everybody.
especially if it's really hot or cold (in hawaii it's still in 90's, and it's NOVEMBER)
but just fight through it and just imagtine yourself dunking that ball as motivation.

Re: Aeon's Journey to the Rim- VJB Journal
Haha I just finished Bodyweight. Man... I can only describe my legs as really got RAPED!!!! I used a stopwatch to ensure that my pace of the exercises will be just nice.
But after the workout, the sense of accomplishment makes me look forward to the next training Anyway, after 1 phase, do you guys rest for a week or do you just carry on?

the recovery would help you..
but unless your muscles hurt or you start doing some exercises sluggishly you should be fine just going onto the next phase without a week off.

Re: Aeon's Journey to the Rim- VJB Journal
Week 3 Day 1
Wow I finished the workout yesterday and it felt wonderful! Bodyweights became easier for me even though the split squats increased by 5 per set. For the bodyweight squat, instead of counting to 100, count to 50 and 50 back to 1. It really works for me because of the psychological effect making you believe you are still fresh. More importantly, you're counting down and this makes things easier!
My legs are heavy now but I can't wait for the next workout. It'll mark the END OF THE FREAKING 300 BODYWEIGHT SQUATS AND THE SPLIT SQUATS!!! Also, I'm going to test my gains next week. God bless me gain 2 to 3 inches so that I can grab the 9'6" rim. It'll be one step nearer to grabbing the nasty 10 feet one!
