Re: Mig's no program Journal
What about whey? Is whey a good substitute for creatine because I can't find any creatine anywhere.

no not really they do two different things whey protein builds muscle and creatine gives your muscles more atp "energy" but any place that has protein should have creatine. They even have creatine at supermarkets but its usally the pill type. Just go to GNC and you will find it there.

Re: Mig's no program Journal
Hey guys,
I tested my vertical yesterday after doing another week of phase 1 novice strength training. I couldn't believe it but I gained an extra inch in vertical!!??
I'm now up to a standing vertical of 25'.
I couldn't believe it hey...
I complete the sets of squats 5 minutes before the test and I thought my legs would be smashed, but I still managed to get a good jump going. Maybe I'm not doing the squats with enough intensity, because I still had some energy left. I still go to failure and dropped the bar on one occasion, but I seem to recover pretty quickly in between sets. I also lost another kilo (2.2lbs). People look at me and they can't believe i was once a fat arse...
Do you guys play basketball several times a week even when you've already done strength training and plyos a couple of times that week????

Re: Mig's phase I results
Hi All,
Good news. I finished phase one last week and after testing my gains it looks like I've added 7 inches to my starting vetical. I managed to touch the rim! So from my calculation's, if my reach is 88', and the rim is 120', then my jump is now 32 inches!!
I have some video of a jump which was done during a timeout in last night's game. I managed to touch the rim up to my first knuckle. How many more inches do you think are needed until you can easily dunk with a ball? I reckon my gains might plateau now, because this was a freakishly quick gain. Hopefully it doesn't take a few months to get higher than 32' inches. The game was alright cause our team won, but I only scored 11 points and screwed up some passes. My skills have dropped off because I'm spending more time in the gym and less on the court. I'm not naturally good at basketball so I've got to figure out how add skills training to the VJB workout, without leaving myself dead tired each day.
Our basketball season is nearly over here in Australia so I will try a spend the off-season focusing on the next 3 phases of the VJB training guide.

Re: Mig's no program Journal
Hi All,
I'm half way through phase 2 and couldn't help but test today. Well, I was disappointed to find out there were not any extra gains this week. I did notice my plyometric work getting stronger though (it feels more controlled and I'm getting a little better at the exercises). The actual vertical jump didn't gain much though. I guess I'm happy it's not decreasing so I'll keep training and recovering and hopefully my vertical is on the verge of increasing again soon.
I've got squats tomorrow and I'm hoping to get a PB. This might sound silly but I've yet to break the 1x bodyweight mark in my squat lol. 72kgs is the goal for squatting tomorrow. I've got to smash that or my vertical will not increase at all!!!
Check in with you all later,
Mig

Re: Mig's no program Journal
Phaaaaaaark, I tried to break my PB at squats in my last workout and couldn't get my arse off the ground. For some reason my squat strength is not increasing at all. I can't believe it and it pisses me off. So many people on this forum are reporting huge increases in their strength and I can't even squat more that my own fu(king bodyweight. As soon as add more weight my technique goes to sh!t and I loose my form. It's fu(ked...
Let's hope I'm not pushing 72kgs for the next fu(king month...
