If you've done weights for 1 year+ and have some experience lifting then you can probably start with novice. If you're pretty fresh to weights and don't have much experience I think the VJB itself recommends starting on beginner level. It's worth getting your squat technique strong and honest early on. I ended up reading the whole VJB just to be sure about all that stuff. It doesn't take long to read once you start on it... Good luck dude, I hope it helps you with your hops.

If you have no access to lower body weights, then you should do the bodyweight program. Good luck on your vertical.

You can do both together, or one specifically. Most people would advise you to do both since Kelly said that if you do both strength training and plyometric training together you could get up to three times the results!
