i think he means yur two thumbs should be close enough to create an upside down v which is a good way to shoot, and u should catch the ball with your hands above your elbows which gives you a quicker release.

in better basketball shooting video, coach Torbett teaches to shoot with a "V", but, when i make a V, my shot is unnatural and uncomfortable. i guess V is for BIG palms.

I use the V. Just use whatever style you're comfortable with.
