Question vertical leap corresponds to 40 yard dash

In the 2008 NFL combine, I noticed that 95% of the players who ran the 40 yard dash under 5 seconds had a 30+ vertical leap (All the players with 40+ vert had an incredibly fast 40 yard time).

Now I realize football guys are a lot bigger and heavier then basketball players but does this mean that if i improve my 40 yard dash I will automatically up my vertical leap?

To improve in the 40 you would be doing basically the same strength exercises and plyos, so yea it would increase both.

Ya u most likely would but dont get confused with this concept.

Its the higher you jump the faster you run
Not the faster you run the higher you jump

You have it a little off.

It's gains in jumping will always mean gains in speed, but gains in speed don't necessarily mean gains in jumping.
