Default How often steroids are used?

Do you guys(including redsoxfan15) use steroids for ur vert endeavors?

Cause I've been watching Superhuman in National Geographic lately which says 1 in 20 Americans use steroids on average based on the number of athletes that use it.

Does Kobe use it?

That's quite a silly question. No-one here uses it. NBA players don't use it. I've seen people who abuse steroids play basketball...it doesn't look good. Stamina and agility is negatively affected.

That's just silly. Steroid use is much more common than most people think, especially in competitive sports. Steroids don't just make people bigger and stronger, they can also increase your workload, help you recover faster, and heal faster from injuries. To think not a single NBA player uses steroids is just being naive. The NBA is very competitive and some athletes will always look to get that extra edge.

If you actually believe it negatively affects stamina, why do even marathon runners get busted for steroids?

actually steroids make you bigger and stronger because they increase your training potential. allwoing you to work for longer etc.
the use of anabolic steroids for distance runners surprises me though. im not saying your wrong they may well have used them and been caught but it seems much more likely to me that they would use diuretics and blood doping to gain an advantage. blood doping would give them an advantage but not increase their muscle size which is something they dont want to do.

as for the question, i hihghly doubt anyone on here uses them and im sure the nba players wont. we have drug tests occasionally at my team here in england. so i should imagine there is extensive drug testing in a league and sporting franchise as big as the nba

Honestly, NBA players don't need them.... I feel basketball at that level involves more skill than anything, and most likely they already have the physique. The strong bulky look is few and far between now, and basketball players are now going to a tall lean muscle mass look.

Also, there is to much risk at that level... the NBA is a business first and basketball second... the key for these players is to entertain fans in a proper way. A positive steroid test would hender that (along with drugs, DUIs, Jail etc)

There is def. regular drug testing as their are with other sports.... how regular, I am not sure, and the results to date, I am not sure of the last time I heard an NBA player test positive for anything... I wonder if this is due to inactive testing, or a strongly implemented system?

None the less, I am sure their were NBA players who used steroid to get them to the level they are at, but I doubt they use them in the NBA,

though there are probably a few cases
-----------------------------------

Going through college, I was aware of a few athletes from schools taking steroids in many different sports.... Sadly at the D1 level it is still very alive, and active... though thankfully the NCAA and drug testing have become more reg. I for one would never touch the crap, and I hope no one else here does, its more detrimental than anything imo.

-----------------------------------

Distance runners are more so know for blood doping, which isn't a steroid but still none the less a sad substitute to supply more O2 in the blood... crap

Jumpers have been caught on Human Growth Hormone to develop, and this is what I could see NBA athletes on, or college... bc drug tests can't pick it up....sadly

This is why track and field is such a highly tested sport, and you still see failing tests annually. In Pro track, only the best of the best actually get enough money to support themselves! There are probably less than 15 millionaires in track and field. You need world record status or potential to be one of them! Thats why athletes are doing whatever it takes to get to that point.... It not for personal glorification, as I am sure most of them feel like crap anyways, they are just trying to make money... sad but true.

Hence another reason why NBA players don't really need it, they all ready have the cash, as a 12th man in the NBA making min salary gets more than 99% of pro track and field athletes...

Ok, I am done throwing some thoughts down!

Ending note: Steroids are crap, you don't need them, I would never do them, and I still have reached every goal I wanted, you can do the same!

Good Luck!

This is kind of what I was getting to, but I didn't get as in depth about it as you did. I was grouping steroids, HGH, Blood doping and etc all together. From what I know on the topic, the drug testing in the NBA is a joke, as it is in many sports. Until it gets to the problem like it is in baseball, I'm sure the NBA will keep it under wraps. If I recall correctly, they've caught 3 people in the NBA on steroids.

Just look at marijuana use in the NBA. The majority of players are smoking it, but very few are actually getting busted for it. I'm sure players probably get a heads up on when they get tested and make sure they're clean before they do.

The sport most often linked with steroid use aside from track and swimming is probably MMA and I know a large majority of fighters have at least tried steroids at some point. It's also like I said, many people take steroids not really to get bigger and stronger, but to recover quicker so they can train harder and more frequently. You also get very few fighters getting busted in relation to how many use, because most know how to cycle properly and avoid getting caught.

Of all the sports, I'd say steroid use is probably the least common in basketball. The reasoning is they wouldn't benefit a basketball player as they would an athlete in a different sport. Basketball is largely a skill game and I don't see the use of illegal stimulants helping too much aside from recovering from an injury.

For me, I would avoid this stuff just because it will more than likely become something you rely on. We also do not know the long term effects it can have on our bodies and I can't imagine it being good. Also, at the same time if you train hard and smart, you will be able to reach all your goals doing it naturally anyways.

Each NBA player has 4 random drug tests per year, so I doubt anyone uses them. Darius Miles did get caught, and that's why he has to start this season with a 10 game suspension.

HGH is the new drug of choice for athletes who want an illegal advantage but it's much harder to get that than steroids.

Miles got busted for a weight loss drug. What's funny is the NBA e-mailed the 30 teams about the failed drug test, but not to anyone else. Miles also got busted for this while he was still with the Blazers, yet it became public only when Miles started working out for other teams. Could it be the Blazers wanting it to scare off other teams? As you can see, the way the NBA operates is strictly behind closed doors. They leak out information they want to and keep everything else internal.

Oh I thought it was steroids. Well it's the same idea.

They aren't open though on a lot of things. With the NFL when a player gets suspended they are specific about it, in the NBA they don't release any information.
