No, you should only jump the amount which is comfortable, so your not forcing it. Practicing should improve the amount of lift you get, try bouncing on the spot twice, and then on the 3rd taking a jump shot, this will help you get some rythem.

NO. Forcing your max vertical when shooting will distract you from the motion of shooting. You should learn how to read the defense and create space between the defender and you.

well i dont practice shooting that much but like 2 weeks ago i shot 300 jumpshots for practice and when i jump as high as i could they kept going in( only 21-22 inch vert tho) so i kept doing it and i was shooting like 8 jumpshots of the dribble in front 3 pt line in a row It was like hit 8,miss 1, hit 6,miss 1 ,hit 7. So ive stuck to it and its been working find. I guess you have to be comfortable doing it as i am jumping so high off the ground.

My vert is low so i guess it doesnt mess it up that much. Im thinking that if your vert is high and your jumping like 35 inches then it could mess you up. You could try practicing if you so desire not getting blocked because disregarding what some above posters say fi you look at kobe and ben gordon they jump high 30s when they are jumping shooting and they are good shooters.

You DEFINANTLY need to jump a little when shooting so that your legs are generating enough power to get the ball to the basket. You want to make sure that if you are shooting off the drible or from triple threat that you stay low so that you can just go straight into your shot without dipping the ball or squating down and that will make your release quicker. (That should help if your getting your shot blocked) Also if you watch Kobe he'll jump as high as he can off the dribble (but hes pretty close to the bucket when he does it) and then shoot so that its harder to block his shot. You shouldnt jump as high as you can unless your close to the buket and you dont need your legs as much to get the ball to the bucket. Make sure you shoot on your way up and not on the way your way down.

i'm a shooter too...the way not to get blocked is when you shoot, while in the air trry to pause in the air for as long as possible(practice is required obviously) so basicly try to get hangtime while shooting. Also shoot at your peak, when your in the air shoot when your about to fall back down from your jump.

all this requires practice, just go a court and start shooting from a close range where you can do everything i told you to and start to increase the range as your get used to it

also jumper higher doesn't mean you won't get blocked, hangtime in your shot is what matters...look at Kobe or MJ they hang in the air for like 3-5 seconds when they shoot over someone.

umm i think hangtime=bad. Think about it, it gives the defender time to react if you were to pull up of the dribble or shoot outta triple threat , givin them a chance to block\contest your shot. It also decreases the power generated by your lower body so youd get a shot that is short or flat because you dont have power. (ive tried shooting jumpshots with hangtime and that did happen so i shot em more naturaly)

Really, comfortable is all shooting is about.
If you hang you may have the defense stripping you from behind.
