Default push ups for biceps...

i was watching this thing on google which showed lebron james doing push ups. the thing is, he was pointing his elbows inward. when someone asked him why he does it like that, he says it helps ur biceps in size. is this true??

From my experience in working-out, the closing your hands are together the more you are working your triceps, and the farther apart they are you are working the pectorals (chest muscles). As to working the biceps, I'm not too sure on how to work your biceps when doing pushups.

no u guys dont get it. i was lookng for the video but they took it off. they showed all of his summer workouts. when doing pushups, u noe how ur elbows point to the sides, that works triceps and chests. if ur elbows are pointed inward, do they work ur biceps. cause when i do them, my biceps kill.

Then you are working your biceps.
Here is a specific-to-bicep bodyweight exercise if you are interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeCMtzRIMEQ
And of course, chinups are a must as well.

@Youngtricker:
Great to see someone on the boards that communicates with proper grammer.

+ that's a great exercise. I just did a few reps and if you don't have any access to weights, that's a great alternative.

i dont think those actually work the biceps.

the ones he does work triceps. when you push up, youre extending youre arm out, whichll work your tricep. its the same thing as doing a closegrip benchpress (i do these all the time - you do a benchpress, but keep your hands shoulderwidth apart, and your elbows will stay close to your body).

but, if you work your triceps, that will let you make your biceps stronger, since its the opposite muscle. (like if you only do chest press, your max will be less if you do chest press AND back work)

Smile Re: push ups for biceps...

as somewhat statedabove.

- No form of pushup directly works the biceps but in some cases the bicep is used to stabilize the triceps, shoulders, chest

- i have heard rumors that handstand pushups can somewhat help you with pullups but this is not a fact.

- remember pushups are not for training mass so dont expect great size.
