grip would help and try and practice when your fatigued sometimes like after a hard training session because then it will be more game like.
hate it wen ya drop a pass though, i've only done it once for like a year but i was putting a spin wen i caught it an it jsut slipped lol coach wasnt happy, but i did it again an it came off so ok. but yeh jsut practice also practice sprinting and getting someone to through u lobs, bounce and chest passes.

anyone have any tips or things to do by myself with a basketball or anythin to get better at catching?
Lot of tips given by others already so you can work on those already. I would add that you should learn to anticipate the pass to you. Being caught by surprise just increases your chances of dropping the ball. Always try to keep an eye on the guy in possession of the ball as well as your man if different.

Another thing is to develop "soft" hands. When the ball travels to you at super fast speed you must learn to "absorb" the force (i.e. "give" in the ball) as soon as you receive it in your hands. This basically means moving your hands in the same direction as the ball after initial contact. You can practice this by just standing close to a wall and bouncing the basketball back and forth repeatedly. You want a quick catch and quick release, repeated. If done well, the ball will be received quietly in hand (i.e. no plam slapping) and the drill will be very fast. Next thing to do is obviously to practice with a friend. Focus on the quality of your catch.
