Arrow Bursitis

Lately my elbow has been hurting a lot and today I went to the doctor and she said that I had Bursitis. She told me to go to physiotherapy for exercises to strengthen my arm. I need to ice it everyday until it gets better. Does anyone else have this? Cause I was told to not play basketball alot because of it.

Basically, physical therapy will help, but it's nothing that you couldn't do at home with the correct exercise program. Your body has bursa sacks around all joints, these contain fluid that act as lubrication. When your bursa is inflammed, this is bursitis. The only ways to get rid of inflammation is R.I.C.E. rest, ice, compression (if it is swollen), and elevation to reduce the blood flow. If you are not taking anti-inflammatories, get on them. I don't really suggest the regular, over the counter meds, but herbal. Ibuprofen, naproxen (alieve), and motrin, work as an anti-inflammatory, but they stop muscle from growing. Look for herbals like: resveratrol, turmeric, omega-3's (flax oil, fish oil), and a name brand called Zyflamend (contains many herbal anti-inflammatories in one mix). These work well, but will not shut down the muscle. If you have swelling, this will also shut down the muscle. Ice is the key, and rest. The tissue thickness of the area determines the length of icing. Knees, 15 minutes, thicker areas like quads and hamstrings, 20 minutes, ankles, elbows feet, 10 minutes. Once the area goes numb, stop icing and do not reapply for one hour. Follow C.B.A.N. - cold, burning, ache, numb. Once numb, stop icing. If the area is stiff, say in the morning, use heat, not ice. Heat will increase blood flow, and lossen up stiff joints or muscles. Take a couple of weeks off of playing ball, see how it feels. Definitely do some therapy, usually with very light weights, or therapy bands. Good luck, hit me up if you have any questions.
