Default Season/Vert conflict

Hey guys,
got a bit of a situation here...i'm startin uni ball this year but i don't wanna sacrifice my vert program. If i'm gonna start playin comp, i'm gonna hav to start doin sport specific training like cardio, which will wreck my gains. As i'm jst under 6 foot, to stand out on the court i've been focusing on my jump, if a scout saw me dunk at under 6 foot and white (not trying to b racist), i reckon it would b more beneficial then jst being a regular PG. Wat should i do guys???!!! Focus on jump training or tryin to get as match fit as possible???

much fit as possible in my opinion..... like if you can jump high, but you get worn out late in the game..then the scouts will guess that you don't work that much athletically, thinking you have no work ethic (im not saying this is true)

Vertical leap will not get you into a div 1 school or the NBA (period.) Specially if you are under six feet. In good leagues there are 6`7+ people. Even if you have a 50 inch vertical jump they WILL block your ass.

I dont understand why people give so much importance to dunking. Dunking does not win games.

In my opinion you should get the fittest you possibly can, train your handles, your shooting, and then kick some ass

Btw, im back.. Havent posted in a while :]

I doubt anyone is getting blocked if they get up 50 inches with the ball in their hand. Assuming the 6' person has an 8 foot reach, they are getting the ball 12'2" in the air. I doubt anyone 6'7 in the nba can reach that high from basically a standstill position jump, while having enough power to block the shot. I understand your point, but don't be ridiculous with this they WILL get blocked.

Dunking can help you get more exposure. It really isn't that important, but a lot of people think it is, including scouts/coaches.

Its not that i see dunking as the be all and end all, its just that after training for months on jump, i don't wnt to lose it from cardio training. Would jogging 3 times a week ruin gains?

Depends how much you are jogging. If you are doing a lot of jogging for your cardio, then it will probably ruin your gains. It may also lead to overtraining.

If you wanna jog, do it low intensity.

i know what u mean about dunking. if u pull off a big dunk and u are little it will catch some attention. then the scouts will be watching u, and then they will see how u are at the rest of the game. it just catches their attention.
with ur vert training, if u are jogging 3 times a week then do a jump workout of weights and a jump workout of plyos once a week. that should stop u from losing any vert.
