Good stuff on jumping technique... I recently put a video up, mostly summing up alot of what you all have said. Hope it can be of some additional aid.

YouTube - Gain 2 - 6 inches with better jumping form.

Overall I think is a big help.

1. Get warm - increase the elasticity of muscles and joints. Increase blood flow to muscles.
2.Stretch - further increase elasticity of muscles and supporting structures. Warm and elastic opposing muscle groups allow full contraction.
3. Eliminate mental blocks - Don't allow your mind to interfere with performance.
4. Exaggerate last step - This lowers body prepares for lift off.
5. Use whole body - Prep arms and lower back to be involved in upward explosion. Point toes toward knees to get full range of motion.
6. Successfully transfer momentum - Allow forward momemntum to be successfully transferred upward, instead of "killing" it at the point of take off.

Thanks this really helped.. I think also alot of people dont realise that the jumping technique can add inches. Lots of people go straight for the jump training without mastering the technique first.

Thanks to the dude for the technique video. I gained about 1 1/2 inches on my 2 legged takeoff and about 2 inches on my single legged. Now that I've started vert training and got some springback insoles coming in the mail (rape price of $70, fuck international shipping and the exchange rate) I should be able to dunk by June.

Try to use weights while you are walking.
I trained myself to use it regularly.
I can jump 15-20inch after using it
Now i can Jump 20+inches.

Check this out!

hey, i am starting air alert 3 on monday nd ive been reading up on it alot.

i know there can be some serious knee injuries but there can also be great gains. i will be training on grass while wearing my bball shoes and instead of the hundreds and hundreds of burnouts i plan to do half the ammount of jumpin rope.

id prefer to be doing weight training to improve my vert but i dont have access to a gym or anything. i think air alert is just the easiest program to access and use.

ill be stretching before each session for roughly 5 minutes and doing a 20minute (roughly) warm up. and then stretching and rubbing of the knees, shins and theighs once i have finished.

ill be updatin my progress as i go along

u can call me an idiot for tryin this but i am confident that i will gain inches and prevent injuries.

I did some tests nd stuff today. i stand 5'10" with a 7'6" reach nd i have a 22" standing vert. i have been doing athletics for 8 years and basketball for 5 years nd i am in good shape. i am 15 years old

Matt

Matt,

I know you are itching to get started and don't really want to put off any action any longer before you hit the ground running but I would seriously consider this.

1st - Adding a strength element to your training is ESSENTIAL soooo important in order to achieve optimal results.

2nd - Weight training is not the only method to achieve proper overload to create muscle gains. One legged squats and other creative methods are excellent alternatives. Most athletes I work with cannot even do a single one leg squat. Once you can master a one leg squat resistance doesn't take much.

3rd - There is a serious volume issue here. With too much exercise volume during a session you are NOT going to be working your muscle in an optimal fashion for maximizing your vert. I have some suggestions about this here:

YouTube - Habitual jump training: Does it work?

If you decide to do air alert I would follow the suggestions as well as add a resistance training program with it. I promise you - no... science promises you better results in the end.

Keep us updated man...

What do you mean by a strength element exactly? Like what exercises should i do?

And should i practice these one leg squats on the off-days?

Thanks heaps for the reply, and i will keep you updated

Have a good week mate

Strength element usually means resistance training or weight lifting. You need plyometrics and weight lifting... The stronger your legs are the higher you jump, and the greater affect plyometrics will also have on your jump. I recommend a strength element at least twice every 10 days. Some people do strength exercises twice a week and can get away with it, but to sustain long term gain and help ensure full recovery I recommend one every 5 days or so. You can do the one legged squats and then in between every other set of 1 legs squats do 2 - 3 depth jumps.
