Where to start..
Im 5'8 and I have never done any kind of weight training or vertical jump training before. my vert is only a pathetic 18 inches. right now i can stand under the hoop jump and just barley touch the backboard. I was thinking about doing AA untill i read all the negitive feed back it has recieved. so im looking for any advice on what programs i should use and what might be best for me since i have no previous experiance in jump training. my goal is you touch or grab the rim so around 10 inchs maybe?

Re: Where to start..
couldnt agree more. if you have access to weights, go start with vjb novice weights and get started asap =] you can add in novice plyo's aswell if you want.
if you dont already have a copy of the program, make 100 useful posts and pm a request to me, or any other mod/user who has the program and we'll be happy to give it to you

Re: Where to start..
Dosent VJB have a strength training program using your body weight because i no longer have access to a weight room. Could i do like that and the plyos at the same time?

Re: Where to start..
Yes you could. VJB bodyweights is good, but weights is better. You can and SHOULD do plyo and weights together. However, theres a few things you shuld be aware of:
1. if you are doing this in the middle of bball season, its not a good idea. i dont recommend plyo during bball season. Reason is bball is mroe than enuf plyo than u need and you will burn out if you do plyos.
2. Bodyweights takes A LOT OF TIME. roughly 1 and a half hour. you will need some serious commitmetn to do it.
3. i see your goal is have a 10inch gain. however, doing only body weights makes thsi very hard. you will need weights eventually if you want to keep gaining.

Re: Where to start..
Start with novice weights, and then 6 weeks into that, add one of the plyos programs which would probably be beginner for you.
After that, do that test vjb has, and do one of the intermediate programs.
After that, you should see 10 inches.
rangerid is alive?
