Ankle Weights and Jump Rope
Will jumping rope with ankle weights help you or will it just hurt your knees?
Thanks.

Re: Ankle Weights and Jump Rope
will help what? if your looking to increase vert, skipping will help a bit, maybe only a couple of inches.
ankle weights arent recommended. they pull on your joints, both ankles and knees and could result in injury. use at your own risk =p
i have ankle weights, i bought them before i knew anything about vert training, and i never use them. the one thing i would use them for is building muscle, eg doing leg extensions or whatever, but of course, there are better alternatives =p

Re: Ankle Weights and Jump Rope
Jump rope is excellent for coordination and agility which is essential for your jumping technique. Ankle Weights are not good man. Seriously just try this. Walk around on your heels until you start feeling a burn in your shins/ankle region. Another good way to build up ankle and toe strength is toe crunches and extensions.

Re: Ankle Weights and Jump Rope
I try to jump rope every day along with lifting and plyos.
Monday - upper body
Tuesday - lower body
Wednesday - plyos
Thursday - upper body
Friday - lower body
Saturday - plyos.
Jumping rope is great for coordination and quickness, as well as cardio (I smoke too much weed, I'm tryin to stop though).
I was just wondering if it would hurt you if you wore ankle weights while you did it, and I figured it would.
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.
Also, what about wearing a weighted vest? Will that hurt your knees or ankles at all? I have a 30 lb Valeo weighted vest.

Weighted vests do work for you. I use mine all the time. I suggest using it for skipping rope, rim jumps, calf raises, bodyweight squats, lunges, and anything else that it can be used for.

I use it when I practice dunking, layups, and finger rolls. If I used it for shooting, it would throw off my shot.

Re: Ankle Weights and Jump Rope
i dont know how much you weigh, but a weighted vest is only beneficial if its weight is at 10% of your bodyweight so if you weigh 150 pounds it shud only be 15 pounds at max.
As you said ankle weights would indefinately be bad while jump roping lol. just do it normally.
