Doing Air Alert, full aware of risks- any advice?
Hi guys, I'm new here, I've read through every post related Air Alert, and found it to be devastating to most people. However I want to attempt this program even if it means quitting at the first sign of knee pain (which seems to be what happened to most people). I feel like I have a better chance because I have very strong knees (never had problems) and I've done high volume high intensity plyometrics during the summer and fall (ex. 25 40m sprints and 15 reps, 8 sets of squat jumps), and quite desperate for some hops
Do you guys have any advice on minimizing the risk? I feel like I'm gambling at a casino and need every advantage possible. For example, the pdf that I was given does not contain information on warming up/cooling down. Also, would doing this on a carpet be the safest method, or should I go on the grass? Can i still lift and do sprints before/after an air alert session?

if you're interested maybe i can update my results and details on pain/injury. But I'm assuming every single person in this forum already knows how bad Air Alert is so it wouldn't be interesting

Re: Doing Air Alert, full aware of risks- any advice?
i dont get you people. you say you've read every thread posted related to Air Alert. if you really have, then you wouldnt be stupid enough to understand what every post has been trying to say. DONT DO THE DAMN THING.
dont get stupid and do what i did. "oh im not gonna get hurt, i've never had any problems with my knees." coz that's exactly what i thought when i read all the posts that said air alert causes injuries.
then i also said, just like you "ill stop at the first sign of knee pains". what did I realise? you dont feel any pain til you stop doing it, when you figured you've just weakened your knees so much you'll regret it.
i know from experience. i completed 10 weeks of air alert, and i stopped on the 11th week when i realised my knees werent the same. now i've got osgood schlatters and my knees are prone to injury, aka weak.
you also said "i feel like im gambling at a casino and need every advantage possible". if you can get better, PROVEN programs like VJB, why the heck would you need to take a stupid gamble which is obviously against you?
i hope that's pushed through your head by now.
next time, dont double post

Well, what is your vertical right now, because if you already have a low vertical and low reactive ability air alert could get you some quick qains. But only do it to about week 5, because around that week the reps start getting too high. Also so you know, quick qains=quickily diminishing results.

Heck, since you've actually read that most people here are averse to doing Air Alert, why are you still doing it? I just think that if you can get the gains that you want using a safer vertical leap program like TVP, VJB, Athletic Advantage, etc.
Oh yeah, my opinion on the injuries come after time not necessarily while you're doing the program. In any case, if you're persistent, I would be interested if you still want to push through with it. Can you make a journal so we can track your progress? If you get significant gains, then well and good. However, if you get injured then I guess that's the price you pay for the gamble.

its safer on carpet i think but i think aa isnt safe at all so i guess it doesnt really matter where u do it. u might not get hurt but there is a big chance u will. y wuld u do something that is harder than vjb, gets u injured and gives u less gains than vjb or athletic advantage or whatever. i think u should have a big think about it

Do it on carpet I did it and felt no pain at all, I dont think you will get injured all of a sudden so pay attention to your knees and if you notice any pain stop immediately.

Chriso, how long did it take to realize that your knees were weaker than before? a week after you ended the program? or a month?

Go for it. It's either a hit or miss program. Either you don't get gains and get pains in your knees, or gain 12 inches and feel great. My knees have recovered and am thinking of starting up after the season again where I picked off and see how far I can make it. Then I am going to complete as much of VJB until next winter. Basically, I'm gonna train for one whole year and hope to gain up to like 15-18 inches.
