Actually, jumping rope is a great warm up. I use it to warm up for games, and my workouts. So, it's a very good cardio workout and a good vertical workout. You just need to do different types of jumps.

It is a good cardio workout that won't decrease ur vert. Use it as a warmup like the above poster said.

No, jump roping wont get you what your looking for. The most is 2 inches in 3-4 months. There are a lot of better excercises that you can do. Jump roping is a very low plyometric excercise. I did jump rope a lot last summer. It basically warms you up. The best you can do with jump rope is warm up.

Yea, you can actually gain alot more then that, I have a friend who does skipping everyday about 1200-2000 skips a day and he stayed consistent for about 4 months or so and he gained like 6 inches on his vertical and his stamina is so amazing now, he can run 4 laps around our 400m track at 75% speed with out stopping, skipping rope is a really good way if you wanna increase your vertical.

RFD - Rate of Force development

Lazarus is going to do high intensity intervals of skipping to try and burn some body fat. His next phase of training is going to be aimed at losing body fat and improving his rate of force development. Having said that I would probably imagine that he will be using other exercises such as concentric only squats, paused jump squats, and box jumps to improve his RFD and not necessarily the skipping part.
