Default tips on d

against a person bigger than you, the gym i go to is full of people at least 5'10+, they always get past me just by running to the hoop and make an easy lay-up

im ok but not great at steals, i just want to give the taller person a hard time to shoot instead of going to the hoop easily each time

hmm..something i personally lack and think is pretty much REQUIRED to have good d is to have lateral quickness, and relatively fast reactions.

and just with that having the nose in line with their belly button thing. people say to me to stay low and have your legs spread out when playing defense. i do this, and man my friend just pro hops over me =_= something i find annoying, coz if i dont stay low he finds his way around me too =p

Unless you are much smaller, I think that is way too low to be. If you go too low, you are not as explosive so they can easily get past you since you have to rise up, and then move, instead of just moving.

Also they can easily shoot over you and you don't have enough time to contest the shot.

I'd say get your legs shoulder width about, and look at his chest.

i want to add little more: you hands should be vert active (like bruce bowen). and remember to take the charge, if i'm the ref and he runs over you, 80% i would give him a offensive foul, and remember to use you arms and your body to box out for the rebound

lol i dont think theyre gonna call charges in like pick up games at the gym,but if they do u should, also if u want to steal, the best time to do it is wen the ball is on its upbounce back to the dribblers hand, thats wen they have the least control over the ball, its also when the ball is at its slowest, and u should try to steal swiping upwards to avoid fouling

with the taking charge thing, half the reffs where i play dont really call them. my friend said that in order to call an offensive you gotta fall straight on your back, and not sideways or anything coz that's defensive.

but falling on your back is 1) dangerous 2)painful and could cause seroius injury on your neck =/
