Re: is my coach right?
u can get better at both but u have to train both. gains will probably come slower but u will get them. if u only train one of them then the other will decrase quicker.

Re: is my coach right?
u would b better focusing on one, targeting one alone willl get u best gains but wont necesarily decrease the other.ya vert training which is ya explosiveness and power training should work as ya endurance training to.depending on how conditioned u r,how hard ya bball training is 4 u and how much ya vert training takes outta u,you should b gud doin just ya vert stuff,as ya conditioning to.

Re: is my coach right?
guys try not to do plyos and cross country, at the same time, but you may do weightlifting and cross country at the same time.

Plyos and cross country don't mix IMO. When you run cross country, it's just training your slow twitch fibers. If you need proof, the average vert of a long distance runner is 12, yes 12 inches. Plus it would be really hard to focus on both since you would be so worn out and probably overtrain yourself.

The fact that the average long distance runner's VJ is only 12 inches means nothing in this case besides that long distance running is not the best way to train your jump, which is pretty much common knowledge.
The coach is not saying that cross country will help your jump, he is saying that conditioning like that is a good thing that will help you in basketball games. Those long distance runners do long distance running. I'm pretty sure that they don't care about vertical jump, because that isn't what they do.

Re: is my coach right?
dont do cross country for basketball conditioning. what you really should do is suicides. cross country wont condition you for basketball it will make you worse, it will make you run slower and jump lower. and in a basketball game does your coach want you to go the same speed as you do in cross country as on the basketball court.
