Re: 40 inches
guys i cant predict how long it will take you to reach 40 inches, an average basketball player with good genetics may get 12 or 13 inches in a year, after that year you can probably expect another 4-6 inches per year after that until you reach you potential, but i think it is possible with hard work to gain 16- 18 inches in about two years, but that will take luck and putting 100 percent effort into training, i trained for 5 years before quitting my training.

Re: 40 inches
for anyone who hasnt lifted yet for your first program you do with weights, if you do it properly you should gain the most the first time you lift. Usually the first or second time you finish a program you will gain the most so I think yes it is a realistic goal and is reachable.

i think there is a limit, but i dont no how u could tell....but there is one kid in my city who is like 5'6 and grade 8 and he can touch the rim from a standing jump....his standing vertical was atleast 30 inches cuz his standing reach is about 5 inches shorter than mine ( so his would be 7'1) and the rims we were playing on were about 9'8 , no less...so 7'1 and 9'8, thats 31 inches for a 8th grader, but his running vert is like barely better than his standing, there was only maybe a 2 or 3 inch difference than his standing, but still i was amazed when i saw it....but i dont think you'll ever see some1 15 or younger with a standing 40" vert...no way. maybe some could get close to it around 37-38 but thats probly cuz they have crazy genes and are the next aut or vince.
but alot of ppl can get 40 inch verts with vjb or sumthin b4 they reach 15 or 16 years...just imagine lebron starting vjb or tvp when he was a freshman in hs....

Re: 40 inches
I don't get the guys who are 12, 13 ,14 year old, They prolly arent fully grown even, And wanna get 40 inches already, whats the point of a good vert if you arent good at bbball, You guys shud keep practicing ball , and forgot about vert for atleast now.

your wrong, considernig most kids at 12, 13, and 14 are about 5'8-5'11 average and have only an average of 24-28 vert, you would have a huge advantage if you can dunk, all you have to do then is drive and dunk over and over again. they cant do anything to stop you if your vert is high enough and you got sufficient ball hanldgin skills.
of course, you will reach a level eventually where you will have to be fundamentally sound. but dont ever think that haveing a good vert wont help you in bball
