Heres something very interesting but true....
Ok i have finished reading Blast Your Bench and its an excellent Ebook! The information provided are excellent and very interesting.
here is something i have foudn very intriguing and astonished:

This may surprise you, because most of the time you are told that you should eat a low fat diet. But you will notice that if you increase your fat intake during the 3 weeks that you are on the "Blast Your Bench" program, your muscles will feel fuller and you will get a great "pump" when you workout. Fat also helps with the production of anabolic hormones such as testosterone.
While you are trying to increase your strength you should eat approximately 20 calories per pound of bodyweight and a minimum of one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. So a 200 pound person would eat 4000 calories and at least 200 grams of protein per day. It is okay to go out for a burger and fries or pizza while you are on the "Blast Your Bench" program. This is not a free ticket to pig out on junk food all of the time. But while you are in hard training and trying to gain maximum mass and strength, it will give you extra calories to fuel your training.

Re: Heres something very interesting but true....
I'm not going to argue, because I don't know much about the subject.
I will say that I am skeptical (maybe it is because I've been told otherwise for so long). Is it saying that fast food is good for you during this program?? And obviously fat can be healthy, we'd die without it, so I agree with the fact that we need it. But we need good fat, good calories, etc. Burgers and pizza aren't ideal as far as I know.
But I could be way off base here.

you should follow a good diet if you want lean muscle fat, if you eat this much youll be big but not well toned.

Uh youngtricker the program nor i am saying that you shuld eat junk food every day. it simply says that junk food once a week during the program can help.
you havent seen teh workouts yet but its 5 days a week so a little more fat makes sense.
and redsoxfan, i do follow a godo diet. i also do an unbelievable amount of cardio exercise. for example, i just had McDonalds today (not that i wanted to it was my parents' choice...) and i dont think that having junk food ocne a week will hurt.
especially how much cardio work i do. About 2 hours of bball practice a day

Re: Heres something very interesting but true....
A few years ago I moved to London and was studying full time. When I first got there I weighed a fairly lean 83kg. All I did for the first 2 months was study lift heavy and eat. By the end of the 2 months I was up to a shade under 90kg. I was still fairly lean but way bigger.
My bench press went from 80kg for 3 reps to 95kg for 6 reps. My diet was I ate pretty clean all day (but ate often), then after my workout I would havea protein and carb shake, then I would go to KFC and eat 3 bits of chicken, chips, potato and gravy.
The motto of the story, if you want to pack on size, you got to eat big. I wouldn't want to do this all the time, nor for a long term, but as a short term thing the extra calories from junk food helps you grow like mad.
Cheers

No comment re JE. However, back on topic, I agree, it is more about how much you can absorb which is why the KFC was always a post workout meal when my body was in an anabolic state.

Thank you Ranger,
I am 30. I completed my PT course many years ago but I don't use it as I work in finance which pays way, way better(finance boring, pays well, training and exercise, fun - pays crap) . That said, like yourself I am very well read - but really only for bodybuilding. All this power and jump training stuff is pretty new to me. I only recently decided to start vertical jump training and try and dunk before I get too old so that is why I am here talking to you guys. Fresh ideas, thoughts and comments etc. Sorry for getting off topic.
