Weight training and results
Okay so I would post this in my journal, but I think it got erased. Anyway last time I posted was about 5 weeks back, and I had just had about a two day span where when I warmed up I could get about 35 inches up running off two feet. Since then I've been following VJB and doing my Squats and Deadlifts (properly, I checked with some personal trainers).
Since this point I've had a couple intense workouts, which left my legs a little fatigued, I wasn't surprised that the next time I went to jump in bball my running vert was only about 32-33. Since then I have no gotten up past 33 inches, and thats after getting 3 days of rest straight. Now my Squat has gone up significantly since then, same with my deadlift. Just this past wed my sqats were at 295 and 315, deadlifts were 215 last time. This is up from about 245 and 175 respectively from my "peak vert" time.
I'm also in season so maybe my body can't react to improve plyometricly, but still, decreasing over 5 weeks? Seems like something's wrong.

Re: Weight training and results
how does your bball scheduale look like?
do u think u r getting enough plyometric ability through bball alone?
1-2 plyo sessions might/might not hurt
just give it some time
make sure u r not overtraining
some signs of overtraining:
unnatural tiredness
insomnia
frequent colds and infections
trouble waking up in the morning
craving of stimulants and caffeines
most gains are seen about 1-2 weeks after completion of the program

Re: Weight training and results
I'm in season, so thats 3-5 days a week, a lot of running and scrimaging. I do workouts 2 days a week, they take about an hour. Full intermediate weights from VJB except for the plyo workout in the middle. I do an addition ab workout 3 days a week. I'm sick right now but I doubt that it's overtraining. Might be though.

Re: Weight training and results
I've been sick the last 3 days, the four weeks before that though I've seen decreased preformance. I eat very well, supplement, and am taking creatine. I only do the 2 weights workouts a week, and skip the plyos because I have so much running in basketball practices and games.

Re: Weight training and results
dw about it aye
just giv it some time and see how things go
ur body will b different depending on the circumstances and conditions its subjected too,one day ya vert may b higher than the next, its all variable
make sure ya getting enough rest, coz offcourse u will not b at ya best level, i mean ur training and in-season so ya body will b recovery from all the physcial activity it gets
ive neva come across anyone or heard of someone having decreased performance whilst training,so i dunn really noe about that
and by training decrease, how much,do u mean like a drop in vertical or overall performance?

Re: Weight training and results
Overall preformance I'd say is up, I'm squatting better, and honestly squatting 295 is easier now than 240 was a few weeks back. My vert though has decreased a little, on a consistant basis. Day in day out I see it a little bit worse than the vert I had at a point during my training, though better still than before I started. Basically overall preformance has stayed the same to increased, and vert has stayed the same to decreased. And that's what I'm training for

it could come down to a lot of little things, jumping technique, plyo work alot more factors come inot play tat u should consider, scoping them out is the hard part
i will need to do plyo work, cause strength training alone will not get the job done,u must do both plyos+weights, but since its in season i wouldnt worry about plyo's
try doing a little vert 'extra' excersices, like the foot excersices and lower leg stuff tat gets u a few addded inches
regular stretching is also important, dont forget that
ive maintained my vert ova 2months stretching+ball and staying active

Re: Weight training and results
Aight thanks, the season's another 2-3 months depending on how far we get in the playoffs (we clinched a spot today 9 games into a 16 game season), so I guess I'll take 2 weeks off at that point. Then I'll holar back and let y'all know what I see. Honestly I'd be hoping for a 34-36 standing vert by then, that'd be after an entire 16 week VJB program, so 5-7 inches doesn't seem like asking for a whole lot.
