Default My season is done. If I train....

I am a sophomore that plays for one of the best high schools in the state of Washington. I tried out for C team. The thing is that I made it past first big cut. The last day during tryouts (towards the end) I got a rebound and fell on my leg funny and it was hurting BAD. The coaches said theyll keep me on the team if I am gonna recover in 2 weeks. But today the doctor said that I hurt my ankle very bad and will not play for 1 month for sure. So I got put as a reserve

This is very bad because I trained/lifted weights the whole summer. All I can do is watch and think about next season.

STATS:
Height:6'1
Weight:165
Reach:8ft
Running Vert: 27in (this is an estimate because I can get about up to were my knuckles start when I get rim)
Position:Right Now PF, JV an Varsity season SF.

My question is if I just start training and working out like crazy until next season will I see big improvements? Also if I do VJB for like 9 month (either plyos , bodyweight, weightlifting) will I start dunking next season and have noticable ups?(right now I can get 3 inches over the rim and I can palm the ball but cant dunk.) I am determined because I want to go play basketball at at the next level. Will hard 9month of VJB give me really nice hops and will I be able to dunk on people if I work on it hard?

If you train hard and smart for 9 months then you will get good gains. You need to actual train. Not just a few days here and a week there. You also need to make sure that you don't hurt yourself or overtrain. If you have VJB then follow it. Make sure that you don't try any shortcuts eg. doing advanced workout when you test at novice etc...

Man I know I really am gonna step it up for next year. matter of fact Ima try 2 go all the way for varsity. Its amazing how you dont know what you have untill its all gone.

EDIT: O yea I know how some people just train hard for a little bit and than give up. However Im am really serious about this. I wanna start VJB next week. Because even on the 10th grade team all they do is practice. They dont lift weights at all. So Ima lift weight and practice. Since Ima be a SF I will try to develop my midrange jumper more and try to get real nice hops with hard work and dedication.

The coaches made cuts. Than after the cuts he called me and talked to me. He said he will keep me on reserve for two weeks. If I come back than I am no more reserve and will play. However I dont hink thats gonna happen because the doctor said that I seriously injured it and will take me at least one month to start being 75%.

What did the doctor say was the kind of injury you have? Was it your family doc, an Emergency Room doc, or were you referred to a specialist such as an Orthopedist/Sports Medicine specialist?

First of all, sorry to hear about the injury, especially considering that you've trained so hard for it. Regarding the gains in nine months, it depends on the vertical leap that you have, if you've trained so much to get to your current vertical leap, maybe your increase will not be as much as someone who has no previous plyometric work-out. However, seeing the level of commitment that you have, I think you can definitely still improve on your vert. If you have more time and the available resources, maybe you can do tvp after you've done vjb to get more increases.

Well, good luck and come next year, hopefully, you'll be on dunking on everyone blocking your way in the try-outs. Peace.

It was a fam doctor. He told me to tell him what happend. Than they did an x-ray thing. Nothing was broken. Than he said how I ripped tissues inside and some crap. Than he gave my dad lots of papers and told him to read over them. Im suppose go back to the doctor in 3 days and hes gonna look at it again. Than if its as bad as he thinks it is he said I will need to get it massaged every Mon and Thursday at some place that he will send me to. Right now its all warm and hurts so bad when I try to jog a little bit .

EDIT: I havnt really trained my vertical or running vertical. I did 4 weeks of AA3 but thats just crap. I first touched rim without any training.

If it isn't broke, you might be able to play in less than a month depending on the grade of tear. Did your doctor tell you or your dad what grade of tear it was? When you tear or stretch ligaments in your ankle (the most common is the anterior talofibular ligament, the one just in front and slightly below the part of the ankle bone that sticks out) it will be assigned a grade; 1 being the most minor, and 3 being the worst. This will have a lot to do with how quickly you recover from an ankle sprain.
