My New Workout Plan - advice?
well at the moment, im planning on stopping my weights, mainly because my osgood schlatters is stirring up again, and i dont wanna put too much strain on my knees til it loosens up a bit.
so for the next say..month or two, i wanna replace my two weekly workouts at the gym with cardio, mainly to lost weight(lower my fat %). but the thought of my vj going down just re-popped in my mind.
so what do you guys think i should do? coz of course i do wanna keep my vj as it is, at least for the time being, but also lower my body fat %(coz it's climbing up on me) and i dont wanna strain my knees with too much weights.
p.s one last thing, i still do play basketball from monday-friday at school during recess/lunch breaks, but its just a relatively calm, jogging kinda atmosphere, so i guess it wouldnt be able to be counted as TOO much of a plyo's workout, but would it be enough to keep my vj up?

If you stop for the next month or two you will definately lost some amount of vert. What leg exercises do you do? The only ones I can think of that would stress your knees are squats and deadlifts, if you can do those without pain then do them. If not, try just doing Romanian deadlifts or glute ham raises. And obviously, you can keep the upperbody workouts.

get gel heel inserts it works and saved my osgood schlatter you can get them online at like dr scholls man i got 3 pairs and by the way weights are one of the best things you can do because it strenghens the muscles and takes pain of your knee do almost every exercise for legs in the weight room squats and full squats help a lot too because they strenghen like 5 muscles
http://www.drscholls.com/product.aspx?prodid=30
those arent the same heel inserts i have but they should help i think

well yeah, thats what i was thinking, but would the major amount of cardio bring it down even more?
with the leg exercises i got squats, calf raises(both one and two legged),leg press, leg curl, leg extensions, and i use a total hip machine which targets all the adducter/abductors etc.
P.S. i was also thinking the loss of weight would result in less body fat=jumping higher? i mean say if i were still able to jump with the same power, but lost like..6-7kilos? i would get at least an inch or two, no?

Re: My New Workout Plan - advice?
what u can do to lose weights is sprints. sprinting up a hill and stuff. if u have a weight belt u can try and sprint up hills with that. if not u can just get a backpack and fill it up with things, like books. also if u want to lose weight u should watch ur diet. u can do ab exercises so wen u have lost weight u can have strong abs and also it can help with ur vj. u can do calve raises to help maintain ur vert too. if u want get some springbaks insoles. they help ur vert and running speed and stop u from getting injured. my friend has the same knee condition as u and he plays a lot of sport. he just puts ice on it after sport and massages his knee before and after sport.

Re: My New Workout Plan - advice?
thanks for all the advice so far guys =]
just wondering, what cardio could i do at the gym that wouldnt effect my athleticism too much? i mean they got treadmills, steppers, cross trainers, upright, or the non-upright bikes, rowers...
so what could i do that wouldnt like..screw up my basketball? coz i mean if i were doing cardio on a treadmill, and just say jogging for like 15-20mins, i dont wanna end up being a marathon runner =/ i would still wanna keep my current speed, or improve it..
hoping for some replies from redsox and rangerid aswell hey..

Re: My New Workout Plan - advice?
yea i got osgoschlatters 2 it sucks.if u wanna loose bodyfat any type of excersice helps. It depends how much the weihgt training takes outta u and if u can do some cardio for weight loss.first get ya osgochlatters checked first.c a doc or physio or padiatrist they will help.always remember no matter wat u do train hard and train right.if ya legs hurt after training stop and get help.continue upper body and abs(must for bodyfat loosing).if i was u i would do the bodyweight leg strenghh program if weights r 2 much, cause plyo's can injure people wif untreated osgoschlatters.if its been helped then plyos should help 2
