You see in all the instructional videos that your supposed to hold the ball at eyelevel and then release. I think that is wrong. Don't you? Look at all the nba players. Rip hamilton, MJ, Kobe, Ray allen. They all shot at about 6 to 12 inches above their head. This is right isn't it? I know they do this so their shots won't be blocked but its also more efficient so why don't coaches teach this. I have one quesiton though. I am trying out for jV next year and i have 8 and a half weeks to perfect this form. Do you think i should do it?

you shouldnt practice this form. your exactly right about the nba stars. your want your arm(not the forearm) eye level not the ball. if you shot like this you would get like no shots off and have a weird arc.

You want your elbow at your eye and the ball to be from 3/4 to the end of your head to the middle.

Its not the amount of shots you get, its the amount of shots you take. What i mean is, with this shot, it is easier to rise up out of triple threat and not get blocked. So YOU have to make that change in your game, it won't just come for you.

so do u actually do this. because it doesnt matter for me. im like the tallest sf so i shoot over ppl anyway

i've started to change to this because before i was doing the thing at the eyebrow level. I could never get a shot off but i was an amazing shooter. I hit open shots cuz they were really easy. You give me a foot i'll go off. I'll just rise up and hit it. I almost took my team from a 20 point deficit to win. I got it within 3 but when they didn't give me space i couldn't do anything. I think this helps.

Form is overrated. Whatever works the best for you is the best form.

Yea if your shot has the same problem over and over again, you can use the shooting videos to fix the problem, but you don't have to change your entire form.

Well eventually the better you get the better your competition will be and it will be harder to shoot over everyone. besides if you beat your defender and a big man comes to help you dont want to get your shot blocked so its best to train shooting higher. If you look at kevin garnett and Rasheed Wallace they both have really high release shots because its much harder to block a shot if the shooter has a high release.
