Any thing that you train for is going to be emotional I almost had a nervous breakdown when I was 16 because of how bad my game was but the things that helped me was this site http://www.mascsa.psu.edu/dave/Mental-Toughness.pdf and let me ask you a question like when you play do you focus on the rim or is it on somthing else while you are balling

Dont give up and keep playing. You will eventually get better. i remember starting playing and i was shooting with 2 hands. i couldnt make a shot even if i was staying under the basket. My dribbles were horrible. i couldnt touch the net.
But now, my handles became good, my vertical jump improved so much that i am only 4 inches from dunking and i can now make most of my jumpshot 3pt.
It took me 3 years of practice to get to the level i am right now. I was playing ball everyday during summer.... even during raining days on the basketball court outside.

My advice to you is: Just practicing won't help, practicing right will. When you practice think about what will help you the most. For me it was seriously learning how to shoot. BECOME A SHOOTER. Seriously. Best thing to do. ANYONE can learn to shoot. I started to play basketball in like 8th grade. Plus i skipped a grade so i had a disadvantage all along. Plus i'm an all honors student who practiced ONCE A WEEK. I tryed out and somehow i almost made it lol. I shot 4/10 freethrows, 2/10 spot shooting and almost made it. That was because of my ability to play tough and my ability to drive. That was my raw talent. However, now because i just practiced shooting, i make about 90 percent free throws and i can swish threes easily from 2 feet behind the line. Use your time wisely and just pass up those one on one games. Go and practice. After, go out and beat the guy with your shooting.

Man I once and such a bad game I only hit one basket and I was clipped in the air and I think I was 1/7 from the field when I got home I went outside and started shooting and while I was shooting I... I felt my heart sink into my
chest and I started crying.

Everything I know now . . . the pitfalls, the highs and lows, everything . . . it taught me and made stronger.”-Ray Allen

It's probably the best I've played throughout my career. I'm older, a lot wiser, more comfortable and I feel great. I'm in pretty good shape. It feels good.”- Paul Pierce

I'm from the bottom, I understand what it's like to have and to not have. My perception on giving is to put yourself in those people's shoes and go from there. So that's what I did.”

p.s I am very very hard on myself when it comes to basketball
