Default To anyone who is on a team, or in a league

What do your coaches teach for an offense to beat a zone defense?

Yeah, my team ate shit tonight because they wouldn't set up our offense, wouldn't move, wouldn't use my screens, and wouldn't take outside shots. I'm so heated right now. I've been texting for the last 2 hours to a couple of teammates who DID play hard. I'm hot! On wednesday, I've got practice again, and I'm gonna call out the guy who considers himself "point guard". He shot too much, didn't pass to open guys, especially one guy who WAS hitting the 3. I'm point, and play true point, but this guy just DOMINATED the ball. Shot too much. Man, I'm HOT. I called him out afterward for not hitting the open man who was hot, and he was like "I got him his shots". Complete B.S. I know dribble penetration, and skip passes work, hitting the outside shot especially. But man, this guy would not give up the ball. And he's BRAND NEW TO THE TEAM!

yeah we usually get our best shooters freethrow line extended an a person in the middle and just pass around wait either for middle 2 get open or take an outside shot...........no point guard is a point guard unless he's the coach on the court and runs everything and gets everyone involved unless he's on sum KOBE status

Man, I agree about the coach on the court, that is my status for sure. I come up with the sets, and direct, but this guy today just dominated the ball, and wouldn't pass. I mean it was like he was affraid to give me the ball. He got me it ONCE and I hit the open shot. Other than that, he was trying to draw fouls or something, and my team NEVER gets calls, so we need to shoot YA KNOW?!? As far as the shooters at the line extended, good call. The double penetration works too, but with this guy... I don't know. We may scrap on wednesday. I hate it when people just make excuses, and try to justify their actions without taking responsibility. I spoke up because my team was telling me that they were upset about it.

we just pass round and cut, set screens and stuff. in my last team we played 1 4 high. u would probably no that play and then for a team im filling in for they do a play called tex, it has a double screen and a few passing options for shots so it works every time pretty much. sounds shit bout ur team tho. i got put in a shit grade when i should be in a high one. and so i have to do pretty much everything and these guys cant shoot and just try and shoot 3's, even tho im the only 1 that is supposed to and shit. plus they dont rebound, im a guard and i have to do lots of rebounding coz these guys dont o how to box out.

Wow, that really sucks. I feel for you. See, we have shooters, we have big men, we have rebounding, we just don't have the right movement, and 2 ball hogs. I'm about to have it out at next practice though. I'm never shy, I say what I think. The biggest thing is my teammates, look to me for leadership, they tell me their concerns, so, I have to say whats up. 1 4 high with my team wont work because we have so many bigs, and 3-4's. Maybe 2 3 high. I'm just frustrated and looking for any help. Thanks for the input. Good luck with your team too.

ive got training tonight. will your team listen to what u say though? lyk i have a real good coach, but these guys dont listen to anything he tells them. so that kinda sucks. we got a couple of good guys and then the rest suck. well a pg is normally the leader of the team, so u gotta take leadership i guess. just talk to ur coach, get him to bench this hogging guy if he doesnt pass, and u can take his spot while he is off.

ow offence is motion and we do lotza cuts and backdoor cuts.works mean as when its run properly.at NATIONALS one of the gurls who has played all year didnt even remember how we did ow offence.i nearly gave her a hydin lol

ow defence is carolina or carolina cover and we try to trap the offence just before they get over halfway and we try get them to either foul, use up there 8 seconds or do a stupid pass and its easy as points.but if they bring the ball over half we go into the 3,2 zone

its pretty mean how it all blends together AND WE HAVE A AWESOME COACH WHICH KNOWS HIS STUFF but ow team can be pretty useless at listening and understanding simple drills.me and this one other chick get hearty pissed cause we gota wait for them understand it and run it properly.THEY DONT EVEN NO HOW TO SCREEN YET!!!!!!!!!!!!we have a small school with only a few hundred so its quite hard to get players.last year we went to nationals with 8 and come 5th and this year we somehow pulled together 12 players

I was taught to screen/pick, move the ball around until you have a good set shot. Basically set up your shots inside/outside the zone. Sometimes the zone is imbalanced, slow to react to the ball swinging outside the zone and a forward can drive in across the lane with some help from the centre. But I don't really know much about this. I don't play a leadership role and normally shy away from it. I play 2 guard most of the time. Bizarrely, I am better driving inside than playing the outside game.

Your situation sounds like it sucks though. Hopefully that guy will learn his place.
