Re: High School Team
the coaches always have their favorites. people who are more well known in your area will always get the nod before an unknown, even if you are far above them skillwise. high school basketball is a popularity contest. usually the best players at your school aren't going to be on the team. due to not getting enough playing time, they have too much stuff to deal with at home, don't have the grades, etc. try to find out what the coach wants as soon as possible. some coaches like real aggressive players. some like really good shooters. some coaches just focus mainly on speed. each coach runs their own type of system. in most high schools, coaches rarely switch up their style. they always stick to a fairly basic plan year after year. the advice i would give to you, is to always hustle for the loose ball. make smart plays, not flashy ones. take the shot if you have it, don't hesitate. coaches like people who are confident in what they do. whatever you do, don't ballhog. your teammates will be less likely to pass you the ball throughout the season. being in shape wont hurt lol. one of the main things to do, is never dwell on a bad play/turnover while you're playing. it will throw you out of your game. last thing to remember, is that first impressions are everything. you have time to improve, but if you do something, like get into a fight the first day... your coach & teammates will always remember that.
