Default My Problem

This is an email i sent to a coach so bear with me. I do not feel like rewriting it so here it is. It is basically part of my story. Thank you for reading and writing back and helping.

I have a questions about release points when shooting. Well i'll give you some backround on why i am concerned about this. About 2 months ago i was a great shooter. I could shoot fadeaways, three pointers, and mid range shots pretty easily. It seemed that i had FINALLY figured out the art of shooting a basketball. Then, unfortuantly, i had an injury one hip in track, then right after that injury i got another one on the other hip from basketball, and also a badly sprained ankle. After 9 weeks of no shooting i thought that i wouldn't be able to shoot anymore and i was right. I could not shoot like the way i could. I played some pick up games and it seemed the only shot that i could hit was fade aways and those were all from luck and feel for the basketball i guess you could say. All those shots had a high release point like you see kobe do. I tried a very high release point after that and it did not work to well so i went to my old release point. That release point was one that was literally on top of my head and almost touching. Just imagine having the basketball exactly lined up with my head just 2-3 inches forward. Before my injuries, i was shooting very well with that. I also noticed however that when i was missing i had developed a bad habit of tilting my head to the right and in my release i would flick my hand and wrist to the right to i guess counteract the tilting of my head. I tried to fix this but the only way i could was to make the release point not as high as i saw in kobe's form, but one just alittle more natural. I put the end middle of the ball basically where my head started and about 4-6 inches above it. I could not really practice this as i have been injury prone and my old problem has just started to hurt again. I have to take a break so i got to thinking more and reading more about basketball. So i really do not know what to do. This is the shot i want to be able to shoot like. It is a picture of Jose Calderon.

I am right handed but i have a right target eye so i cannot have the ball to the right like steve nash or it would block my vision so i have a unique situation i think.

What do you think i should do?

By the way, i am 14 years old, and a sophmore. I am 5' 9", with a 6 1 wingspan. I would consider myself a shooting guard but i would like to become a point guard because of my height. I didn't even start practciing basketball until one year ago so i think i have a LONG way to catch up.

I am sorry for the long email. If you do not have the time to answer this you do not have to but it would be nice if you would. I am just very frustrated that i have missed so much time with all my injuries. I do not think i will every play basketball in college but i would like to in high school. This is part of my frustration because it feels like my basketball career has ended before it has even began. I also am 1-2 years younger than mostly everyone in my grade so i have a major handicap i think. Thank you for writing your website and if you answer this question.

An Inspiring Basketball Player,
Luke
