Start with the bar, and keep working your way up until you can't do it anymore. You might want to do 2 rep maximum since doing 1 rep might be a little dangerous if you are by yourself.
For the program and stuff, you might want to try ws4sb, on
DeFranco's Training ..:: The Ultimate Way To Become A Better Athlete ::.. , ( go to the articles). You might be able to do a lot of the stuff there with just the barbell.
