Default Re: Mental Training For Basketball

Read it all. He explains how it helped him in that post I put.

Im goin to post about shooting now

In order to be a consistently good shooter during games you must have both the proper technique and concentration. Concentration involves fine centering (narrow focus of attention) on the basket which lets your mind judge correctly the path the ball must take to go to the basket and then letting your subconscious mind direct your body in doing the rest. So when you shoot you need to sight your target with a narrow focus of attention and you must mentally follow through. To mentally follow through keep your focus on the basket until the ball hits it. This helps avoid changing your focus of attention too early. There are 5 steps to develop your shooting concentration:

1. Mental Rehearsal- Picture yourself shooting the ball with perfect from and it swishing in. Do this over and over.

2. Body Rehearsal- Go outaide to a hoop and shoot and focus on the basket but don't use a ball. Just amke sure you have perfect form.

3. Practise by yourself with a ball-self explanatory.

4. Develop your concentration in pickup games-play aginst someone and try and make sure you concentrate properly when you shoot.

5. Utilize shooting fundamentals in competition- This is where you technique and concentration together.

The first step of mental rehearsal is very helpful to improve your shot. Just sit in a chair and practise in your head over and over again.

Also when your in a game and before a game loosen up by deep breathing and tensing and untensing your muscles. This is also very helpful.

I hope this helps.
