Just my thoughts on this..
You should do both exercises. One thing to bear in mind is that different people may find one exercise to be much easier than the other. Imo, this is not necessarily wholly due to a posterior or anterior chain strength bias. Leverages play a big part. For example, relatively long limbed individuals may find the deadlift to be easier than the squat; that may be because they only need to pull the weight through a shorter distance/range of motion to get to lock-out. The same individuals may find that they need to move the bar through a greater ROM to hit the parallel point in the squat.
The main thing to keep in mind is that with these compound lifts you are primarily training for general albeit functional strength levels. You are not really looking for replication of the vertical jump or any real-life athletic movement. In other words, you're getting in shape so that you can benefit the most from specific training exercises later on.
