Post The evolution of the "Slam Dunk"

-The slam dunk is considered to be one of the most sensational plays in sports today...like everything in this world, the dunk also has a history of it's own.
I decided to write this article, just for you to see how it progressed through the years.

-George Mikan , a Croatian Nba star, was considered by many to be the first person ever to do a slam dunk. Before him, some players had the ability to do so as well, but they didn't because the dunk was considered an offensive way to embarrass your opponent.
Since then, players used this play not only to power their way through defenders and score with style, but also to impress the "hungry" crowd.
The most famous "old school" slamers, which get their name mentioned even today are:
1.Julius Erving (famous for his free-throw dunk, rock the cradle...)
2.Michael Jordan (considered by many to be one of the best nba players of all time...)
3.Dominique Wilkins (he won two Nba slam dunk contests)

The first Nba slam dunk contest (in which participated Dr. J, George Gervin, David Thompson...) happened in the year 1976:

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-9p8...eature=related

Although the most "basic" slams were considered spectacular in that time, they just can't compare to the level they're on now...new revolutionary dunkers such as T-Dub ,Mr. 720 (formerly known as Air Up There), Kadour Ziani ,Justin Darlington and the De Blaine brothers have introduced a new era of dunking to the world.
For example, the spectacular windmill dunk is now considered basic because it serves as a "root" for creating new types of dunks like the 360 windmill ,the double windmill ,the reverse windmill ...
Athletes these days seem to impress people every day with dunks like the 720 ,the 360 between the legs ,a 360 honey dip ...

- The dunk is a play in sports which will never extinct...it never get's dull or repetitive because of the likes of new players in the basketball scene. If anything is going to change, it can only get better so enjoy all the jaw-dropping slams (or try to do your own), because they're probably going to continue to amaze basketball fans for many years to come...
