Smile common questions asked on training

we have every vertical jump training question answered somewhere in our mess of a jump section forum.But in attempt to get some of the common questions answered, whenever i think of a good question i will answer it here, but i will not go in real deep detail but i will put it in easy words. Please ignore spelling. If you have any common questions you will think newbies should know post below and i will add it up here. I can only think of a few right now please remind me of newbie questions. do not spam. please request before citing this thread on other forums. I do understand i have forgotten to mention some other common questions up there but i do not have time to reorganize it so post below.

1) will lifting weights stunt my growth, the answer is no as long as you keep good form and dont max out every workout. Please do a program of your training level.Also as long as you dont injure your growth plates.

2) what age to start doing plyometrics, you can start very low level plyos known as non real plyos as early as age 12 and work your way up slowly to higher levels.

3) what age to start weightlifting, its not matter of age but the matter of form and what level routine you use for your age. you can probably start training at the age of about 12 at that age please keep 1RM under 80 percent until you can handle the load.

4) Can bodyweight training make you strong, yes bodyweight training can make you keep getting stronger as long as you keep raising the intensity of the exercise like switching from pushups to one arm pushups to one arm divebomber pushup. You will not gain the same mass as achieved through weight training but you will certainly get stronger.

5) what program is the best for new members to training, the only 3 programs i reccomend are vjb and gmv for new to training and then after about 24 weeks you may switch to tvp, thats just what i would do.

6) do jump usa springbak insoles work, yes they worked for me but some people may find them not to fit very well.

7) can stretching make you grow taller, there are many opinions on this, most people do not think they help but some people say they help you grow taller through the stretching of the spine which may get you 1 to 3 inches.

8) is air alert safe, air alert is not safe for your legs because of the constant stress on the ligaments on your ankle, the micro tears in the ankle may be one thing to leads to stunt of growth or possible tendonitis.

9) Strength is built by low reps and high tension with more rests between sets. Size is built by a muscles time under tension like german volume training or escalating density training. some good strength training routines are cycling and other russian powerlifting programs.

10) thoughts on isometric contraction training. isometric training only works the muscle at one point meaning you have to do the exercise at every angle to work the whole muscle. Also it has been proven to increase heart rate more than regular lifting, which could lead to irregular heartbeat, but there are lots of opinions on this.

11) stretching on power output, do not stretch right before games or training, as you will jump lower and run slower, also do not do the hip flexor stretch before a game as it decreases muscular endurance.

12) train for one legged jumping power as it also helps with 2 legged jumping and not the other way around.

13) are ankle weights good for increasing vertical, no using these over time will increase the chances of tendonitis and tiny fractures in the ankle.

14) does upperbody effect jumping and running speed, yes the arms are worth about 5 percent of your vertical and a high percentage in sprinting, i reccomend kettlebells for this training.
