Maybe. Some of the things I used to like alot just get in the way. I see shoes ugly as hell but popularized as one of the hottest things you can get. I wear sweatbands even though I don't need them and don't wear a headband even though I DO need it... truly. I do agree with your statement. But sometimes, it doesn't hurt to look good. I know I'm probably contradicting myself here. I don't have to look good, but I like to.
