if theres no double team, take it up strong, or go with a fingeroll if ur ahead of them and only if the help isnt close enough to block it.

if there's help coming from the post, and he's playing close enough to u to block it (or hes just huge) but hes also shutting down the passing lane to his man, then do a high-arcing "side layup." IT's like a floater, but its also a layup because of ur forward twisting motion and the fact that ur probably putting it off the backboard. if its not a good situation to do a floater/layup, and u cant pass, use the good old pump fake, or even an up and under. most underused drive move ever.

if u have size advantage, sick hops, or the guy just isnt in a good position to block u (e.g. from the side/back), go up strong with both hands firmly around the ball. ideally, u wanna go up for the shot/layup right away, but if u get hit or meet a lot of defensive pressure, double clutch just a little bit and put ur body into it...if u feel like u gonna get STUFFED, then maybe switch directions (e.g. right to left) and that could be enough to draw the foul.

the key is to practice all of this. practice driving full speed to the basket and finish with a fingeroll, reverse (when driving from the baseline), and the "floaty side layup" whatever its called vs. big guys. o ya, and taking it up strong to get teh foul and maybe the and1. and a nice pull-up jumper always helps.

and play lots of nba video games, i recommend nba 2K6. im not kidding, it helps ur drive game cuz u learn when to pass and when to change ur layup (shot stick )...damn this took a while to write
DAMN! nicely written! best reply yet and it was really helpful too! good work.
